I saw an interview recently with Mark Cuban (maybe it's just the YouTube algorithm based on my viewing habits, but damn if he hasn't been doing a lot of interviews lately).
Anyway, he's become a big fan of crypto, and even the Mavericks are accepting Bitcoin as payment at games (unlike the A's I think they only accept it for concessions, not ticket sales). Thing is, Cuban is not a fan of crypto as a currency, and he said the reason he started accepting Bitcoin at Mavs games was to prove a point....that people wouldn't use it as currency. And apparently he's right, they've had very few payments.
What it is more than anything (for now at least) is a very appealing store of value. And so if you own Bitcoin currently valued at $1,000, do you really want to use it to make a $1,000 purchase if you believe in a few months that same amount of Bitcoin could be worth $1,500?
I'll be interested to see how this works out for the A's though. Obviously buying a suite at a game is a bit different than buying nachos and a couple beers.
