I hope someone saw this and bought some moments because NBA Top Shot has been going to the moon as they say.

Mark Cuban has an informative blog post on the store of value of digital “things” and delves a little into TopShot.

Yeah, I saw that. The NBA (ownership and players) is getting more into this because it's cool for one, but also because this is becoming a significant source of revenue.

It's also been a significant source of revenue for me personally and anyone else involved.

I'm sold. Buy packs, star players are worth money immediately, put them on the marketplace in the same spot. Whereas baseball cards you have to play the lottery to get a hit, and extremely extremely rare to hit something in the neighborhood of what these highlights are going for. Then you have to handle with care. Hope it was cut right at the factory, grade it, takes forever, pay ebay fees.

Yes, the logistics of physical cards sucks (and I loved baseball cards).

The problem now is that the demand for packs is so great that it's hard to get one most of the time. They're working on that, though.

I know you're not much of an NBA fan, but this will presumably become a thing in baseball and football in the near future.

It doesn’t have to be limited to athletes either. Any kind of performance art could do the same thing. Even fictional characters (is anyone else here old enough to remember Star Wars trading cards?)

Yeah I’m sure they won’t be far behind. I don’t have to be an NBA fan to enjoy flipping a .gif for monetary gain.

No doubt.

I mean there's all sorts of stuff already out there, some of it cool and some of it is rather confusing to me.

For the latter, check this out. Make sure you scroll down to see how much these are going for!

That's crazy! It seems like with all of this you are making two bets, one on the value of the digital item and another on the value of the cryptocurrency you buy and eventually sell it with.

So I had a FOMO impulse and bought this Lillard moment on NBATopShot for $122. ($128 and change after the fees)

https://www.nbatopsh...0-3cc17178891b?

So far the top sale price for this one has been $1,900, and someone is selling one for $250k.

EDIT: Got this Myles Turner dunk for $194. It's a Limited Edition (only 3,999 out there). Just 172 currently for sale on the secondary market. Curious to see what it might fetch in a couple weeks.

Good luck! I am certainly hoping the market rises!

BTW, I wouldn't place much importance on all the listing prices as some are being extremely hopeful.

Let me know if you have any questions as I've been pretty involved over the past 6 weeks or so.

Oh for sure, I doubt the seller who listed his Lillard moment at $250k thinks he's likely to get that anytime soon....unless he's really naïve. I imagine this is just like the stock market, find the ones that are undervalued and buy. The secret is in knowing what's undervalued.

Have you sold anything yet? More importantly, have you been able to buy any packs when they drop? Seems like that's the big secret to it right now. I couldn't even get on the wait list for the next upcoming drop. Does raising your Baller Status help with that?

Yes, I have sold many moments from very cheap up to some nice hauls.

As for packs, yes, but not during the past 2 weeks other than the pre-order on Saturday, which anyone should have been able to get.

I don't think raising your status helps with getting a pack. The key in most cases is joining the drop before it starts, and then it just randomizes your place in the line.

If you're not only doing so, I'd recommend following this account:  TheFirstMint (@TheFirstMint) / Twitter

How far can the NFT craze go? Crypto-art toilet paper (called NFTPs) are up for auction on Rarible....with the highest bid so far being $2,100.

Opened my first pack on NBA Top shot. $9 common pack.

Immediately listed a George Hill layup with a high serial number (19000something/35000+) for $12 when the lowest ask was $11. It sold in about 5 seconds. Whoops. Maybe I should have asked for more...but I don't even know who George Hill is. Pack is paid for though!

Also got Donte DiVincenzo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Couldn't tell you if they are any good, but I can tell you where they went to college! These have not sold yet. Also very high serial numbers.

The market has dipped significantly since the boom, but still opportunity to profit as you just experienced.

Also, Shai is good.

I got two Luka moments sitting in my collection. One is the one I got from the most recent common pack drop. The other is from the “Sooting Stars” series. I think either of those will move for the price I paid for the pack, plus a little. I think I overpaid on a couple marketplace buys when I first started....ah, the mistakes of inexperience.
