I didn't have any concerns about the team leaving. But if I did, I'm not sure that his comments would give me any comfort. Pragmatically speaking, what pro sports franchise owner would ever say anything other than, "We have no intentions of moving the team" until they make it publicly known that they're moving the team.

Didn't Irsay assure Baltimore that the Colts weren't going anywhere, just before the Mayflower trucks rolled up to the stadium?

Good news! I saw a dog today.

Yep. He said it right to the TV camera. Of course he was drunk off his ass at the time, but he said it.

Irsay said that he wouldn't move the team.

He said it at BWI. ( I believe he had just gotten off a flight from Indy,)

Ouch, that's a kick to Baltimore's groin. I was pretty young when all that went down, so most of what I know, comes from reading about it, years later.

   I could be wrong.

But he was at the airport and like Mike Lowe said, he was drunk. ( real drunk.)

I think he had arrived on an inbound flight.

A few months before the move, Irsay, GM Ernie Accorsi, and Head Coach Frank Kush flew to Indy under assumed       names.

You could do that back then.

   Real sleazy stuff.

I truly do not believe Angelos is interested in moving the team. Thats my opinion.

If they are stuck selling the team, after Daddy passes away, well, that changies the whole senario.

The Orioles have a great stadium, a good relationship with Maryland Stadium Authority and a pretty good fan base.

Factor in MASN, regardless of their issues, MASN is still one of the better cable packages that a MLB could have. Something like 3rd or 4th best in baseball.

Who knows, Ive been wrong before, and I've been right before.

Only time will tell.

I don't trust or believe any coach/manager/owner/star player that says anything in absolutes.

Not because they're saying it in bad faith. Just that such big money circumstances/decisions change so rapidly that it's not fair to hold them to that.

Agreed, no real concern on my part. Even if the MASN deal is overturned, or modified, the O's have a sweet setup. The problem is, they'll never be competitive. Hence, my second reason for not being concerned about them moving. Sure, we'd lose the history, if they were to move. But the idea of rooting for this team, as they have been for most of the Angelos era, just sounds like agony. I'd rather have a new franchise, one with an ownership group that wants to be competitive. No one will ever convince me that the Angelos group has cared about putting a winning team on the field. The numbers don't lie.

I am not an Angelos fan but they are in no way anywhere near close to drunken Bob Irsay.

I wasn't making a comparison between the two owners. Simply pointing out that owners don't usually announce that they're seeking a relocation destination.

I dont disagree with you. I think early Angelos did want to win, and he spent money, not wisely and had bad luck with Belle. He also made a ton of bonehead moves over the years. Too many times his owner suite sat dark. I want an owner zealous for his team and burning desire to win.

Angelos burning desire has been to obtain money. He is a greedy lawyer turned greedy business and that is what he is.

It's difficult for me to continue praising them for their willingness to spend big, in their first 4 years of ownership. It's like having a friend who bought you a beer a few times during happy hour. Then spent the next 25 years asking you to get him back. It makes it difficult to still say, "he's a really generous friend". That whole group is terrible. They all take great pride in reminding us that they're a collection of local kids. Yet they've sucked the soul out of this organization, and reduced the Orioles to a joke.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

They've never had a problem with spending, it was a problem with allocation.

They shouldn't be spending money now.

They should be spending around the core the build though, and we will see if they do.

Back to the idea of the Orioles moving.  I maintain the chances of the Orioles leaving Baltimore are 0.0%.
Some will continue to worry, and that's fine. But it's not happening.  And if the comments from John Angelos here don't alleviate that concern for you, listen to our pod with Maury Brown.

Now is probably a good time to start a bit of spending. Im not advocating going off the deep end.

The young FA talents, to throw in with the core body that you are building from with in.

You cant expect to fill all 40 man roster spots from within and have a competitive team.

I don't think the Orioles are going anywhere.  Our issue is, whether the sons will be able to run a first class organization.  There have been changes from their Dad's regime and ideas.  There is hope.

This is how I feel.  There were some younger free agents that with some modest spending could have enhanced the core.  We did not even kick the tires.  Hopefully next year, but this would have been the year to possibly get a bargain or two.

It really sounds like they have additional plans for the Camden Yard facility.  Getting the Ravens and Orioles to work together with MSA, could be a win-win for the teams, Maryland and the entire area.
