With their 2nd-round pick (No. 39 overall) of the 2020 #MLBDraft, the #Orioles select
OF Hudson Haskin, No. 74 on the Top 200 Draft Prospects list: https://atmlb.com/2AUAd8J

I know a lot of people are going to be shocked by the O's taking Hudson Haskin. The asking price was thought to be quite high bc he's a soph. Toolsy, productive, just not real pretty doing it. Hunter Pence-esque funky swing that has worked.

@jjcoop36
I have to say, not a fan of that pick for the O's. I'm not sure the swing converts to pro ball. Tools, but worried about the hit tool.

The Orioles drafted Tulane outfielder Hudson Haskin with the 39th overall pick. The draft-eligible sophomore is Baseball America's No. 211 prospect in the draft. Hit .372/.459/.647 as a freshman.

The Orioles continue to attack college hitting, and they still have plenty of draft capital remaining for the remainder of the draft. Hudson Haskin has atypical swing mechanics, but he's got a lot of fun tools.

Another premium athlete off the board to start day two. Hudson Haskin is a legitimate five-tool center field talent. Northeast scouts liked his raw tools coming out of high school, but swing was a little unorthodox. He developed very quickly in two years at Tulane.

Orioles 2nd rounder - Hudson Haskin, OF, Tulane Speed, very compact, downward-cutting swing, catalytic offensive qualities.

Law:

51. Hudson Haskin, OF, Tulane, Age: 21

Haskin is an age-eligible sophomore who turned 21 in December and mashed last year as an older freshman for the Green Wave, hitting .372/.459/.647 to finish third in the AAC in on-base percentage and second in slugging (to teammate Kody Hoese). Haskin’s swing is unorthodox — he loads high and waits to move his hands forward, so there’s length to the swing, but his hands are strong and he controls the bat head well through contact. He’s a plus runner with a chance to stay in center and enough arm strength to move to right. If he can handle center field, he’s got a chance to be an above-average regular even without average power; if not, he might be a quality fourth outfielder who plays all three spots but doesn’t quite have the thump to be a regular in a corner.

I get that hes a sophomore and has some leverage but there is no way he's much of an overslot.

So, the Orioles tanked for no reason?

So even if you think he blows up next year, he likely is still there in R3. Get one of the pitchers now.
