House Of The Dragon, a Game of Thrones prequel is coming to HBO.

The series is co-created by George RR Martin and Ryan Condal. Miguel Sapochnik will partner with Condal as showrunner and will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Condal will be writing the series.

Sapochnik as showrunner is very interesting.  He directed several of the best episodes of Game of Thrones, including some of the biggest battles.

I was never really in to the Targaryen lore after reading the main book series (more of a Stark man), but I've gotten in to it after reading GRRM's latest Fire and Blood (history novel on the family).

It should make for good drama/tv.

Yeah this seems like the more logical direction for a prequel to go in. More of a direct connection to the original series, and no one cares about the WWers once they were so easily defeated.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

It doesn’t need a book. The show will have T&A and dragons and violence and the book will have, words.

I think he’s talking about ‘The Winds of Winter’ but this show is actually loosely based off of Martin’s book ‘Fire and Blood’.

(I know you were being a little facetious, just sayin’.)

I haven't read Fire and Blood (I'm done giving him money until I get Winds) but the write ups on each Targaryen king in The World of Ice and Fire are great!  Some of these Targaryens make Viserys and Aerys look like stable great leaders.

There were also a couple of short stories on the Targaryens inn the Author Anthology collection Dangerous Women and Rogues.

This new show won't spoil Winds for me so I'll probably watch.

I believe the story in Dangerous Women will be included in this show. I think this was a good choice. Still can't believe no one wants to do a movie or mini series around Robert's Rebellion.

Cool teaser. I still have faith in the franchise despite how poorly the final season was handled.
