Good article in The Sun from Nathan Ruiz...

https://www.baltimor...3j34-story.html

Some highlights...

...Angelos initially told media members he would welcome them back to Camden Yards within the week to “show you the financials of the Orioles” and a month after he said he would instead hold that meeting before the team’s exhibition slate ended. An Orioles spokesperson did not respond to multiple requests for comment from either the team or Angelos as to why the meeting has yet to take place...

“When I say something — like I’m gonna sit down with you guys, explain the business from my perspective — I’m gonna do it,” Angelos said at the Orioles’ spring training complex in February. “I’m not gonna say it and walk away from it.”

Last month, Angelos cited the Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Guardians and Milwaukee Brewers as model franchises for the Orioles, pointing to their “sustained success” despite their market sizes; none of those three teams has won a World Series in the past 75 years

Gotta give it to the guy... I thought Peter's infamous "PressBox" interview years ago about MASN and spending money and being more competitive, Boston fans were the best in baseball, etc... was about as big of a crap show as you could put in print... but John is catching up fast with this on-going lie.

Ruiz has probably been one of the best The Sun has had at calling out this team and ownership on all of their BS.   Kudos to him

On the flip side,  I've noticed that commenting is turned off at the MASN web page for Melewski and Roch's articles.  FO trying to keep dissenting opinions from showing up on their page?

He’s way worse than Peter.

I think Peter, for all his faults, was pretty bright.  I think John isn't.  I don't think he's a total moron or anything, I just think he's in over his head a bit in terms of being the mouthpiece for the team.

On the other hand, I think fans are kind of funny about this.  Angelos was always blasted (rightly so IMO) for meddling in baseball affairs.  Meanwhile while the Ravens were really running hot people would praise Bisciotti for being a take charge kind of guy and not putting up with mediocrity.  Which could certainly be construed as "meddling".

John has basically come out and said, yeah, I'm not touching the baseball stuff, I'm more worried about concerts and entertainment and such.

That’s literally the only thing better, but is it really? Not meddling is cool. Not caring whatsoever is something else.

All about the Benjamins for some I suppose.  Not caring while providing the funds would probably be ideal.  Not providing funds as a manifestation of not caring probably is not.

I feel like the MLK presser and snapping at Dan Connolly definitely poked the bear for the independent parts of the media

I think that anyone that believes that John Angelos hasn't re-asserted himself inside the decision making of the Orioles would be mistaken.

Mike Elias, for whatever his reasons are, has accepted the updated influence structure,

I mean, I don’t see it as an update. It’s just a lot more public now.

John Angelos is one of a kind.  And that is not a good thing.

Did Bisciotti ever really get involved with player decisions?  Seemed like he let Ozzie/EDC do their thing and was hands off other than occasional coaching situations.

Hes the one who hired Kubiak. I think he was and probably still is quite active in some player decisions. I remember EDC or Oz talking about the decision to trade up for Lamar and how Steve had talked to them in depth about it. I dont know that hes ever made the final call on anything but hes def hands on.

I like that the local media, some at least, are holding him accountable. But when it's a promise we all know he'll never live up to, it has to stop being news at some point.

I'd like to see them try and get an answer out of him as to why he appears to be holding up the Orioles' lease as leverage to get a sweetheart real estate development deal out of the state.

....it's about Team transition.  Everything is about Team transition.  How is that not obvious at this point.

Yeah I know that's the most likely endgame. But if we're going to have to tolerate his ownership for the long haul now, and the detrimental impact that will have on results, I just want to see him squirm and hedge and come up with a ridiculous answer that we can all mock him for. That's about the only means of venting frustration that seems to work for me.

Stoner has very strong opinions on the Os staying. Would love to hear his opinion on how likely it is the Os are sold in the next 3-5 years.

As I've said before, I think if they are sold they will be sold to Bill Miller, Larry Lucchino, and Cal.

Do I think they are sold? Really not sure. 50/50.

I'm pretty sure John doesn't want to.
