Adley or Gunnar?

I'd expect Gunnar to have the better numbers.

Catching is just such a grinding position that I imagine it'll take a toll on Adley's offensive output. Maybe some of that can be mitigated by more playing time as DH with a respectable back up in place.

I'll say Adley.

Unless Gunnar is a legit top 20 hitter it's Adley just from the total value provided from being a catcher

Not saying either one of them will become as good as either of these guys, but this feels like a Yadi vs. Pujols situation. I think Gunnar will have the better numbers and be the sexier pick for awards, but I expect Adley to be looked at as the most important member of the team and the heart of the clubhouse.

Either way, that's a hell of a first two picks.

There's been less of a gap offensively between C and 3B recently than I'd have expected. Only about 50 OPS points last year. Factor in that a catcher has to miss a quarter of the time for rest and I'm not sure that Gunnar would have to outhit Adley by all that much to inch ahead.

Certainly a big part of this will be how much above average defensively at C and 3B both Adley and Gunnar can be. C is even more complicated to measure than other defensive positions. Reasons to be very optimistic about both defensively, but heading into the season I'm more confident in Rutschman being a significant defensive asset than Gunnar.

I think both will be stars as soon as this year but give me Gunnar, kid is special.

I think positional value weights heavily to the catcher.

Both should be outstanding defensively.

I'd expect Gunnar to have a little more power and Adley to have a better OPB.

Don't need the wheels on either one, but neither hurts us (Adley was actually above ML average in sprint speed last year)

The reason I like the McCann move is to let him mash LHSP for 60 games behind the plate and keep Adley's bat in the lineup 150+ games.  Would expect Gunnar and Adley to get a similar # of PAs.

I'd bat Adley #2 and Gunnar #3 to start the season.

I have higher long term consistent star hopes for Gunnar. That's not a slight on Adley at all. Just being "here" at a much younger age coupled with probably less wear and tear on his joints defensively... probably more upside.
