After a 7-0 start to their season, #22 Maryland returns home for their first conference game and biggest test so far against #16 Illinois. The Fighting Illini currently hold a 6-1 (0-0) record, with their only loss coming to Virginia in the Continental Tire Main Event tournament. Their best victory came during that tournament, as they knocked off UCLA. Brad Underwood is in his sixth season as their head coach, and earned them a four-seed in last year's NCAA Tournament. They made it to the second round before being eliminated by Houston.

Illinois is led by senior Texas Tech transfer guard Terrence Shannon, Jr., who is averaging 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. Sophomore Baylor transfer forward Dain Dainja and Norfolk, VA native freshman guard Jayden Epps are also averaging double-digit scoring. The Fighting Illini run with a ton of tempo offensively and are very strong on the defensive end, so this will be an interesting matchup for Kevin Willard and Maryland.

I think Friday's game will tell us a lot about this years Terps team.  I think the conference schedule will be a real challenge because of Maryland's lack of big men, but I think Willard will have a solid plan for each game.  We had talked about going Friday but are dealing with a family issue,so BTN it is.

Zero excuses for not having a full house. It's a Friday, late enough start for everyone to get there, students are all there, you're 7-0 and #22, ranked conference opponent in town....no excuses.

The excuse is that Turgeon was uninspiring and never once sparked a sort of fervor among the fanbase that Gary’s teams did. So many have become apathetic if not downright uninterested. I don’t know many peers who really give that much of a damn anymore. It’s sad. If KW keeps this up, things will change though. It’s awfully front runner of us - not like the Terps have been bad or remotely non-competitive. But Turgeon and his low hopes did a lot more damage than people think IMO.

Itll be interesting to track for sure. Willard deserves to see full houses or close to it if he brings a consistent top 15 program back

I get that the past 20-years have sapped the enthusiasm from the program, but if you really care about MD basketball, I think this is one of those times you need to take a leap of faith and see what the new regime can do. If so few people are willing to do that, than maybe MD basketball as we knew it is dead for good.

It was full and rocking pretty often during Turgeon's tenure. Don't know if it'll be completely full on Friday, but I'd imagine it'll be a very energetic crowd. Student section will be packed.

Wish I could go.

That is good news.   They bring the noise.

They’ve also reportedly lowered the price of select available tickets. We’ll see how much of a difference that makes.

I'd love to go but unfortunately have an event that night.  My boy's already begging me to get to a game so we'll for sure be there for at least one this year.

Seems like this has helped. About 1,000 tickets were sold yesterday after they lowered prices. 3,000 seats still remaining.

Bus in some high school teams. See if that helps. They need to engage more with local HS’s anyway.

But if only around 3k are empty, that’s not bad. That will make for a fun atmosphere. Can’t wait.

Any unsold tickets by noon Friday should be given to the students. Just fill the damn building.

I’ll be sitting 4 rows behind the Illinois bench. Should be fun.

Awesome. Be sure to give Brad Underwood hell when he inevitably tries to fight a ref.
