It was so nice not to have this topic be front-and-center for most of the season. Anyway, here are the odds of landing the #1 pick in the first ever MLB Draft lottery.

1. Nationals (55-107), 16.5 pct

2. A’s (60-102), 16.5
3. Pirates (62-100), 16.5
4. Reds (62-100), 13.25
5. Royals (65-97), 10.0
6. Tigers (66-96), 7.50
7. Rangers (68-94), 5.50
8. Rockies (68-94), 3.90
9. Marlins (69-93), 2.70
10. Angels (73-89), 1.80
11. D-backs (74-88), 1.40
12. Cubs (74-88), 1.10
13. Twins (78-84), 0.90
14. Red Sox (78-84), 0.76
15. White Sox (81-81), 0.62
16. Giants (81-81), 0.48
17. Orioles (83-79), 0.36
18. Brewers (86-76), 0.23

The article on MLB.com makes no mention of whether the 2022 Draft positions impact eligibility for a lottery pick in 2023. Unless I see otherwise, I'll assume the Orioles are eligible to land in the 1-6 range, albeit their odds of doing so are quite slim.

I'll assume the Orioles are eligible to land in the 1-6 range.

I'd go with this too, since we've seen no specific references otherwise and the tone of other articles suggests the Orioles (or Brewers) could land in the top 6.

I was going to start this topic...

"The Orioles draft 17th....or do they?"

They are either 17th or 18th (if the Brewers hit the draft lotto) OR they draft in the top 6.

The Orioles have a 0.36% chance of landing the first pick...but hey, the % goes up for the subsequent opportunities.

If 0.36% doesn't sound very big....that's a bigger chance than the Orioles winning >81 games this season....and heck, they have 6 draws at it.  Given this season....almost feels like a lock for the top 6.

I'm no math wiz, but I guess they have a 3.4% chance of getting somewhere into the Top 6?

For anyone that cares about the new draft format, the Draft Lottery will be tonight, 8:30 PM EST (I think it's on MLB Network and will be online at mlb.com...someone correct that if wrong)

I was curious how they would do it...it looks like they just took a stack of placards to the podium with the top one marked "18"...so if they are going to do the reveal in reverse order leaving "1" to last....the Orioles can only draft 18, 17 or top 6.

If the Orioles aren't one of the first 2 revealed, they would be in the top 6.

Way too early for this stuff, but with the order set, at least these lists give us some names to put on the radar.  Obviously lots changes.

Feels really hard to care about the draft when you know all this team will be is a revolving door of talent for everyone else while never truly making an attempt to win.

MLB.com mock has them taking someone from Maryland, so that'd be cool

Take a chill pill. Then post something relevant about what the O's have actually done this offseason to give fans some real hope they are serious about contending.

It is strange but good to see the Orioles drafting in the middle of the pack.

We will see if the stat pack can continue their success without drafting in the top 2 or 3.

Excited for the first of many draft previews going forward that ideally won't include a top five pick for at least a decade

BSL: Orioles Draft Prospects In College

Good write up.  With the exception of Shaw, I know nothing about any of these players.  I wonder and hope, that pitching becomes more of an emphasis in the Orioles draft.

Every player they’ve drafted first has batted LH and 3 of 4 were college players. In that vein I’m guessing one of:

1. Jacob Gonzalez SS Mississippi (probably not there at 17)

2. Kyle Teel C Virginia

3. Colton Ledbetter OF Mississippi state

4. Brayden Taylor TCU
