Law had him going to the O's in his most recent mock draft.

Law's comments:

Scouting report: I’m not sure anyone has helped himself more than Holliday has this spring, notably during his team’s spring break trip to Arizona in March, where Holliday showed incredibly well in front of a lot of decision-makers in town for spring training. He has one of the best swings in the draft, even with a slight bat wrap, with strong plate coverage and above-average power, more likely to be a high-doubles guy with 15-20 homers than a 30-homer guy even at his peak. He’s been hard to strike out as an amateur, only showing occasional weakness against fastballs up, and so far his pitch recognition has been strong for his age and experience level. He’s improved his defensive skills at shortstop, although there’s also been talk of him moving to centerfield to take advantage of his speed if he can’t stay at short, rather than moving him to second or third. It also hasn’t hurt that his father, Matt, was a longtime big-leaguer and seven-time All-Star, and that scouts have been just as impressed by Jackson’s younger brother, Ethan, who may become a top-5 pick in the 2025 draft. Jackson’s heading for the same range this year

Definitely makes me wonder what the long term plan will be for Westburg or Mayo based on this

Henderson 3rd, Holliday SS, Westburg 2nd, Mayo 1st.

But Holiday probably doesn't debut until '25, so plenty of variables between now and then.

I did read a lot of great things about Holliday's makeup as well. Apparently very tean first.

I'm warming up to it more. Didn't hate it to begin with, and feeling better.

From Fangraphs:

Holliday is one of the better rotational athletes in this draft, with one of the loosest, most beautiful swings in this class. He takes a big (but balanced) stride and can adjust barrel depth by getting deeper into his lower half through contact. He also has a good foundational feel for contact, and actually put balls in play at a better rate than most of the other high schoolers (including Termarr Johnson) did during showcase play, at roughly three balls in play for every swing and miss. Holliday's range, hands, actions and arm are all average, while his baseball instincts and internal clock are very good. He came out during his senior spring with much more raw power than he showed the previous summer. During his spring break, Holliday came to Arizona to work out and take BP with his high school team at some clubs' minor league complexes, and he (and his younger brother — you'll see him in a couple years) were putting balls out of big league backfields with ease. He checks literally every box, and there aren't many lefty-hitting shortstops with this kind of juice. He projects as an All-Star shortstop.

In Elias We Trust right? No other choice.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

The more I read about Holliday, it seems like he was the only prospect who checked every box without a real weakness. He does everything well, rather than doing one thing exceptionally well. It's cool that he put the ball in play better than anyone at the showcase.

Me too.  I'm going to guess very slightly underslot.  $8.25-8.5M

If they take him at full freight it means they really truly felt he was the best player in the draft.

And I'm good with that. That is all I want. Take the best player you can at 1-1.

He's going to get a discount.  There were multiple reports of him being in position to take a bit less because of the family $.

I could see a small discount, but he was not considered an under slot pick compared to the likes of Lee and Johnson.

I didn't research Holliday very much. Eagerly await what the front office has to say about him. He'll probably take the longest to reach the majors of all the top guys. Holliday's upside seems to be what is expected from Lee but with better speed. Twins just took Lee with lots of good things to say about him. It will be interesting to watch both these guys.

“The upside for him is enormous,” Elias said. “It’s a potential star playing shortstop, batting in the middle of the order, doing so for a very long time. In some regard, I don’t know that the ceiling gets much higher than somebody with that profile.”

With such a large group in consideration, Elias acknowledged a week before the draft it was doubtful that all of the Orioles’ decision-makers would agree on one player. He said Sunday that Holliday received a “yes” vote from the Orioles’ decision-makers, even if some preferred another player.

“I think ‘consensus’ is the right word for it,” Elias said. “It was not unanimous. It never is. ... But this was a player that anyone involved would deem worthy of selecting.”

Jackson Holliday said he found out the #orioles would draft him "as they were saying it."
