Looks like a quick but formidable storm in the area in the 7 PM hour, but a chance it could slightly miss the city too. Game should start on time unless something changes, but there could be a delay at some point. Another smaller one in the 10 PM hour. It’s definitely the season for these types of evening storms.

Have you noticed how many pitchers today throw from the set position, regardless if anyone is on base or not?

Tillman was one of the first guys I recall doing that nearly exclusively. It's not exactly the same as the set, but much closer to that than a traditional windup. I think the logic is that the less motion you've got, the more repeatable the delivery will be. And repeating your delivery and a consistent release point (for each pitch) is probably the single biggest key to good command.

Most relievers go from the set exclusively, so with the massive uptick in RP innings you'll see it a lot more often for that reason as well.

Every time we walk by the Palmer statue it reinforces how pitching has changed. That leg kick!!

Yeah I love the style and character of guys with more unique deliveries (and batting stances). Definitely a lot harder to keep it consistent though, so I understand why it's probably not taught that way most of the time now.

Just rest for Hays and Mountcastle? Odd for both to be out.

When I was growing up, every pitcher had their own unique windup that was so identifiable that you instantly knew who was on the mound. It wasn't just Palmer. I'm not sure throwing out of the set position is doing all that much for command. These guys still throw a ton of pitches.
