I'm going to try to go on Monday.  I'm shocked it's getting such rave reviews; I expected it to be total trash I'd watch on free streaming.

It was entire predictable, but way more fun than it had any right to be.  Really surprised they managed to make an enjoyable sequel to Top Gun.

I have a few grievances with some plot points, but I definitely recommend it.

Grade A summer blockbuster. And it didn’t include one superhero!

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Thought it was an above average movie, and movies as of late have sucked in my opinion, but everyone saying it is as good or better than the original are just flat out wrong! They tried to re-create the chemistry with the young guys that Cruise, Kilmer and Edwards had and it didn’t work as effectively! And my biggest gripe was how the hell did they not use highway to the danger zone? The originals soundtrack destroyed this one. Good movie but not the revelation and seeing from so many!

Danger Zone was definitely played in the beginning.

Awesome movie.

I should say though that I watched it with my wife and on the way home she said "Did Goose die on the first one or something?"  I don't even know this woman anymore.

It was really good, IMO. Kenny Loggins did play in the opening credits IIRC before they cut to Cruise in the desert. It was also a Hans Zimmer score. If you don’t appreciate a Hans Zimmer score, then there really isn’t much else to say.

It tapped into the nostalgia enough, almost too much.

But it was a ton of fun. It’ll take a few rewatches, or when it’s running on cable and I jump in in the middle, to see how it holds up.

Yep Zimmer is awesome, just didn’t feel it here, but that’s just me! I’ll have to rewatch when it comes back out. As I said, movie was good but not better than the first and certainly not as good as people are making it out to be. But I’ll rewatch and maybe it will be better the second time through without lofty expectations.

Yeah it’ll take some rewatches to better grade it. I really liked it. Even the couple slow parts are followed up by action packed scenes.

I remember really liking The Hateful Eight when I first saw that, but after a couple watches, or jumping in in the middle, it’s easily my least favorite Tarantino movie.

Had an absolute blast seeing this over the weekend. I'd like to to watch it again soon when I'm mildly sober, and without black jack kicking my ass immediately afterwards, but for the first movie I've seen in theaters in quite some time it was a great experience.

Every scene in the sky was badass.

As someone who I think only saw parts of the original as a kid, I decided to watch both yesterday and I very much did not regret that choice. Maybe it's because I didn't already have the affection for the first movie, but I think the new one is better. Sorry Viper.

Top Gun 86 isn't a very good movie. I like Red Dawn much better, and that is a panned movie for the most part.

Top Gun Maverick is a better-made film, hands down. Slightly overrated, however.

Worst post you've ever made. :)

Both are awesome.  I think Maverick might be a bit better only because it had 35 more years of figuring out how to make good movies, but the fight scene at the end of the original is still fantastic.

OG Top Gun can easily be parodied or picked on. But it's a great movie. If you're flipping through channels you can jump in anytime and an awesome scene is only a minute away.

That's how I feel about Maverick as well. The little love scene and the pillow talk slowed the momentum of the movie to a halt, but then the next scene is Tom Cruise running the practice course himself which is probably the best scene, among a lot of great scenes in the movie.

I thought both movies were terrific.  I have watched Maverick twice already.  Sequels, very rarely nail it, this one did.

The original also has one of the best sound tracks of all time!
