Elon has a talent for seeing a floundering company with a lot of potential, being run by complacent individuals with no vision, just coasting with no ambition.

It's what he did with Tesla. He saw a great idea, being run by idiots. And he took it to the next level. I believe that's his plan with Twitter. He sees a platform with huge potential. I imagine he already has ideas on how to unlock it's full potential.

I'm not sure why the left is freaking out like they are. The people freaking out probably couldn't have named the CEO or board members of Twitter, or their political views, prior to Musk buying Twitter. But now all of a sudden they care?

"The left" isn't freaking out, a lot of people are. Because he wants absolute free speech, when it's already a platform with 300 million active monthly users that isn't doing nearly enough to combat extremism, misinformation and hate speech. Seems like we're moving backwards, not forward. How much more "full potential" can there be from a company that successful? And why should society want that? Some of you root for billionaires the way you root for a sports team, except you get nothing out of it, so it makes no sense. 

The way powerful people are weaponizing social media to spread harmful misinformation (like that which led to a near coup of our government on January 6th) presents an existential threat. It isn't hard to see how someone like Elon Musk amplifies that threat, rather than help solve for it.

The irony in this post is so thick you need a steak knife. Among currently active users, I doubt there is anyone ahead of Elon Musk when it comes to using Twitter to manipulate the world.

How could you twist what I said so much, that you came to the conclusion that I was "rooting" for a billionaire?,

I simply gave my opinion on why I feel Musk bought twitter. He's a business man. He spent $40 billion on an investment. What other reason would a business man use that much capital, to procure an investment, other than to make changes that he feels makes the platform better, and make him more money on his investment ?

And you're right, a lot of people are freaking out... I guess it's just a coincidence that every single one of them leans heavily to the left....

The problem this world has, is they've allowed politicians turn this country specifically, into a political climate where bipartisanship simply cannot exist. And if you dare say something the other side of the aisle strongly disagrees with, it's labeled "misinformation", or "hate speech". Both sides are guilty of it.

And if you're on one side of the political aisle, and think only the other side has been capable of using social media for the purpose of spreading misinformation to manipulate their followers, you're just willfully ignorant.

The problem this world has, is they've allowed politicians turn this country specifically, into a political climate where bipartisanship simply cannot exist. And if you dare say something the other side of the aisle strongly disagrees with, it's labeled "misinformation", or "hate speech". Both sides are guilty of it.

 

Go look back at Twitter circa 2016. There was some true hate speech, misinformation, threats and harassment going on the platform then, and much of it had absolutely nothing to do with politics. People just don’t want to see it go back to that era, and given Musk’s lack of clarity beyond saying he doesn’t like Twitter’s current moderation practices, they’re concerned.

He also claims to be a huge proponent of free speech yet has been happy to use his power to attempt to silence enemies of his. One has to wonder if he is more of a proponent of the spread of hate speech and misinformation than anything else.

The other issue here to me is much bigger than Musk and it's not about him as a person. The issue imo is that in this time of extreme concentration of wealth, we're seeing more and more of our primary mediums for news and propaganda being controlled by the uber wealthy. That is not great for a democracy. A democracy in our case that was attacked last January 6 and is in great peril due to a continued attack by the same people / political party. A democracy that even if it is to survive is looking more and more like an oligarchy. Musk and Bezos are two prominent men in that trend.

It should be noted, that not all of those millionaires was born with money, some were, and I dont have the exact figures, but there are many that were not millionaires until spending 10 years in that job paying 175K a year job.
