If the writers black balled Bonds/Clemens etc for this long, will they do the same to A-Rod and Man-Ram, who tested positive in the testing era?

Manny's defense sucked. Ortiz never played defense.

Bonds

Clemens

A-Rod

Jones

Helton

Sheffield

Wagner

I'd could be talked into Rolen. Don't think he was even one of even the top ten players of his time, but 70+ WAR is good.

Inclined to throw a vote Buehrle's way as a fan.

Schilling. Said he doesn't want to be voted in by the writers. Do you oblige him? Or vote for him based on stats and ignore the giant POS he is?

That would be my 10. If not Schilling, then I'll throw a vote at Sosa.

If you aren't going to vote Bonds or Clemens in... you can't vote anyone from that ERA in. You have to pretty much assume that all of the greats from that ERA were on PEDs.

Bonds and Clemens were clearly greats well on their way to HOF careers way before they got tangled up in the steroid drama.

I wouldn't exclude anyone for steroids, but I think there is a clear demarcation between guys like Bonds, Clemens, Rodriguez, Manny, McGwire, Palmeiro, Sheffield, and others who were caught from guys like Piazza, Bagwell, Smoltz, Rivera, Griffey, Ortiz, and others who weren't. I don't think it's hypocrisy to include the latter but exclude the former.

Ortiz tested positive for steroid use in 2003. You can choose to dismiss that fact because it was supposed to be an anonymous test, but that does not change the fact he's as big of a cheater as the rest of them.

Having said that, they should all get into the Hall of Fame regardless of their use of PEDs. Just tell the story on their plaque.

Clemens

Bonds

Schilling

Wagner

Jones

Rolen.

Same as last year. Pretty set against Helton for now. Ortiz isnt a 1st ballot guy even with zero PED suspicion. He was a DH. With PED suspicion and without having guys like Piazza and Bagwell in on 1st ballot based on same speculation the answer is an easy no  (Was Piazza 1st ballot?). ARod is going in the CLemens and Bonds category. If you are setting an example with them then ARod doesnt go in 1st ballot and not for a long time. Sheffield is a guy Ill take another longer look at in the next month.

Dick Allen and Minoso have to go in on the vet commitee.

Andruw Jones doesn't strike me as HOF material.

Andruw Jones doesn't strike me as HOF material.

I was on the fence post, until I read an article a while back and you can make a case for him.

    • There have been two seasons in baseball history with 25 HRs, 24 SBs, and a dWAR of at least 3. Both belong to Andruw Jones.
    • 2nd all-time in winning a gold glove, notching at least 250 total bases (9)
    • 234.7 DRS, 50 more than Mays
    • All-time leader in seasons leading the outfield in dWAR (4)
    • All-time leader in seasons ranking top ten all-time in dWAR (9)
    • All-time leader in outfield putouts (492)
    • All-time leader in seasons with 25 home runs, 1.0 dWAR (10)
    • Braves record for most home runs in a season (51)
    • 11th all-time in defensive value (via Fangraphs), the only player more valuable on offense was Cal Ripken Jr.
    • Became the youngest player to hit a home run in postseason history and youngest to 300 HRs
    • For 10 years spanning 1997-2007, only Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez had a higher WAR. He averaged 34 home runs and 103 RBIs while winning ten straight gold gloves.

17 Years and career WAR at 62, sitting right in the middle of the 50-70 WAR range.

Six new Hall of Famers named yesterday by the two veterans committees:

Buck O'Neil

Bud Fowler

Minnie Minoso

Gil Hodges

Jim Kaat

Tony Oliva

Dick Allen missed by one vote, probably a consequence of the kind of stupid voting process.

Yet somehow not Dick Allen.

I like seeing a big class though. If they’re worthy they’re worthy.

Only 64 possible votes (that's the kind of stupid part), and the four guys who were elected plus Allen got 61 of them.  3 votes were split between Boyer, Maris, Murtaugh, Pierce, Wills, or no one.

Results of the Golden Days Era Ballot (12 votes needed for election): Minnie Miñoso (14 votes, 87.5%); Gil Hodges (12 votes, 75%); Jim Kaat (12 votes, 75%); Tony Oliva (12 votes, 75%); Dick Allen (11 votes, 68.8%); Ken Boyer, Roger Maris, Danny Murtaugh, Billy Pierce and Maury Wills each received three-or-fewer votes.

That reminds me of the Vin Scully stat. He called MLB games involving Connie Mack, born in 1862, and Julio Urias, born in 1996.

With this ballot you gotta use all 10 slots right?

Also, the ballot still needs to be mailed in lol. The HOF is living in the past — but we knew that.

You can use up to 10 spots, don’t have to.

But yeah it’s definitely geared towards septuagenarians.

No I get that. I’m saying with all the talent you have to use all 10 of your slots
