After banging heads with Shack again today, Rob posted that he'd be looking into the ignore feature here.

I personally think that is a good idea.

Posting here should be an enjoyable diversion for people... if the posting of an individual hampers to you to the point it's not enjoyable... go ahead and use the feature.

What I will say though is, if you have someone on ignore, leave them, and their posts out of your posts.

To use, find your name / profile in the Upper right-hand corner and go to Manage Ignore Preferences.

Not a fan of this at all. The conversation will not flow as well.

Part of the fun for me is seeing some of the lunacy that certain posters provide. If you don't like what someone is saying, just ignore it figuratively, not literally don't see it.

There are a few guys that I don't mesh well with and don't see eye to eye with (never personal, just in "board life"), so I simply don't respond to them at any cost, but would never not want to see what they have to say.

Just my 2 cents.

Some people don't always have that kind of self control. I like that the option is there now. There's only one person I would consider but I doubt I'll use it.

I tend to agree with you... but T.O.R. nailed with the his next post (though this feature has always existed).

Fair enough, there's certainly no right or wrong, but I just feel that the conversation will ultimately suffer, especially if it's a poster who posts a lot, and at least drives some debate.

It will be more choppy if widely used... but maybe the utilization of such will encourage some of our MIA posters to become active.

I don't believe Shack does anything worthy of being banned. He's an intelligent guy who adds to a bunch of threads, and provides differing perspectives.

I wasn't very pleased when you chased Sammy away. And you seem to be a central figure in 90% of the fights around here.

I've been using the ignore feature for a few months now. I find that it makes things much easier. You can always look at what someone that you're ignoring wrote.

On the one hand, it may make the conversation choppier. On the other hand, it helps cut out tangents that just kill and take over discussions. If people didn't respond to those who they didn't like, then this feature wouldn't be necessary. But that's not what's happening.

Ignore someone if they bother you that much. Its simple. We're mostly intelligent 30-somethings here. No need for the insults that add nothing to the conversation.

How about a feature that allows people to be more open minded. Probably 1,000 posts on various O's topics, and everyone's hypothetical scenario is 100% flawless and everyone else's is 100% moronic.

Its pretty annoying.

End of the day, IG is right. It is as simple as this.

It's a message board. While in the past I've not practiced what I've preach here, I've learned it's just not that serious. Being offended is a choice you can control. Others being offensive is something you can't control. The thing that baffles me is that this is a fairly intimate community which means we all know each other's tendencies and idiosyncrasies fairly well... when certain behavior is predictable, it's not nearly as bothersome. Just chill and engage more with those you see more eye to eye with.

Yea, this is what I should have said.
