“Hanser enjoys playing the game and that’s clear when he’s playing,” Hyde said. “You can see the little mannerisms in the box. None of that is show, that is actually him. He loves to compete, loves to play. He plays the game like he’s in Little League for the fun of it.

“That’s why he’s a pleasure to have around. That’s why he plays loose, that’s why he plays easy, that’s why he can play multiple positions. That’s why I have confidence in just throwing him out there in the ninth inning in a terrible spot yesterday. It was like, ‘OK, who can just get three outs? Hopefully Hanser can throw the ball over the plate.’ Yeah, just love his makeup and his attitude and everything about him.

“He’s just awesome to have in the clubhouse, awesome to watch on the field. He’s the loudest guy in the dugout. It’s just been a pleasure for sure.”

Nice to read quotes like this.  The 2019 Orioles are going to have some rough stretches and having guys like this will help.

Alberto looks like a hitter. It stands to reason, some of the cast offs that make up the Oriole roster, will become legitimate major league players.

Alberto, Smith Jr. Nunez and to a lesser degree Ruiz, and Severino have chances.

Now that he has enough PA to qualify, Alberto is 3rd in the AL in BA.

And, boy, does he barely qualify....Orioles have played 79 games and you need 3.1 PA per team game...244.9 PA required

Hanser's total plate appearances....245

He needs to walk more.  Only 7 walks in 245 plate appearances.

No walks, no speed, no power, shaky defense....  he pretty much has to hit .320 to have any value.

Reminds me of Curtis Goodwin when he first came up and hit everything.

he'll be lucky to hit .250 next year, or for the remainder of this season.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Hanser has been one of the players who is fun to watch.  He plays with energy, seems to be a favorite of the other players and has hit well.

He probably is a utility guy on a good team, but on the Orioles he is their second best hitter

I like him, too.  And he would have been a great platoon player / pinch hitter on the Earl Weaver O's teams.

The memories of Benny Ayala jumped into my head when I read your post.

Even the average looks fluky since at the bottom of baseball when it comes to exit velocity (2nd percentile), hard hit percentage (0th percentile), xWOBA (9th percentile), and xSLG (13th percentile).

He’s David Newhan. Trade him to a team that needs someone to hit lefties.

I doubt we could trade him for even a single international bonus slug or back-end org top-30 prospect.  Would be great if we could.

Newhan is a good comp, at least in terms of impact, and a fun memory.  He hit the inside-the-park homer where Manny cut off the throw from Damon, right?

Good memory!

Also, imagine how much more fun this replay would have been if Gary Thorne were the announcer.

He was at least involved in that play. Good stuff.

Alberto is another guy, who to me seems to have more value to the team then he would bring back in a trade.

I do not see him bringing much back.

His value to the team is not worth much. I'd trade him for a single international slug if we can get it.
