I agree that Five Guys is the gold standard, and McDonald's is high up there.

But Checker's/Rally's and Chick-Fil-A are WAAAAAAY too low.

Yea, Checkers are good.

Chik Fil A is overrated with their fries.  Still good of course but I think people overrate them, so this list is good with me.

BK should be at the bottom.

Wendys is actually an underrated fast food place in general.  Shame they got rid of their fried chicken, it used to be really good.

Burger King fries are so bad. SO BAD. Even their new fries were awful.

I have a soft spot for crinkle cut fries. When made correctly, they're unbeatable. You know who has insanely great crinkle cut fries? Great Wolf Lodge.

Wendy's fries are solid. They just never seem to give you enough.

McD's fries are the gold standard, but I put Five Guys fries above them AND THEY GIVE YOU SO MANY.

Glad to see there was no west coast homerism involved with this article because In-N-Out fries are literally the worst thing humanity has ever created.

In 'N Out Burger's fries are such a disappointment.

What's the purpose of bragging about your fresh ingredients if you can't cook them properly?  If you're gonna have fresh fries, you gotta fry them twice to get them cooked.

Then they are overcooked.  They are better than the standard option, but still not good.

You can't cook fresh fries at a constant temperature and have them come out correctly.  You gotta double fry them like Five Guys (or any place with good fresh-cut fries) does.

Shake Shack is a huge disappointment in this regard imo because it's supposed to be an upscale high quality burger joint, and the fries are pretty bad IMO.

I actually think they're pretty good when well done.

Five Guys is easily better, though, especially with the vinegar. The serving size is absurd for one person though, unless things have changed.

Man Five Guys will literally give you double what you ordered. I love them so much, and yet my heart is like noooooooo stay away.

Too bad Thrasher's isn't on this list, because...you know...they'd fucking own this.

Yeah, the amount of fries is only a good thing if you're sharing. Otherwise, just give me a smaller quantity for less money.

And agreed on Thrashers.

Yea In N Out fries stink.  You need to douse them in salt to give them any sort of flavor.

I do love their burgers though.  Any time I am out west and I tell a local I went to In N Out they ask me why.

There used to be a FatBurger in Elkridge (was owned by the late Orlando Brown).  The burgers there were awesome.

I was at a bachelor party in OC last year.  It was early August.  All my friends had gone off somewhere and I was tasked with buying beer.  I was incredibly hungover, sweaty, miserable, walking along the boardwalk trying to find a place that sold booze.  I saw Thrashers, bought a massive tub, and just sat there and ate them.

It was the best and worst I've ever felt in my life at the same time.

Arbys man. Give me those seasoned curlys all day.

But for regular fries, five guys. But those fries are best with malt vinegar and old bay. But they don't have old bay. They have some cajun spice or something. It's fine.

I mean I lived in SoCal for 11 years so I'm going to have say small sample alert on this. People out there generally love In-N-Out.

Yeah that Fatburger was great. Saw Zeus in there once too. Huge.

I echo a lot of what's been said here, but I'd just like to give a quick shout-out to Popeye's.  Love their fries with the cajun seasoning.

And going slightly off-topic, I don't know if anyone remembers but Wendy's used to have AMAZING biscuits.  The best I've ever tasted, fast food or not.  Fluffy, buttery, great flavor - then at some point in the late 90's they switched to the standard fast food biscuits that are awful.
