Very interesting. The NBC deal is certainly big, as well as the backing they have right off the bat. That seems better than the deal the MLL has with ESPN.

I don't know how I feel about further fracturing the professional lacrosse community though. At least with the MLL and NLL, you're playing two different seasons, and it's box versus field lacrosse. The PLL and MLL are in direct competition, so regardless of who "wins" I'm not sure it's going to end up being a net positive for the sport.

Ultimately, if this makes it easier to follow professional lacrosse action live, and it grows the national audience, then I guess it's a good thing.

Missed this link, but read the article at my parents house this weekend. I was not too sure about this before, but now I'm changing my tune a bit.  Rabil seems to put alot of thought into this and it sounds like it could make some waves.  It was interesting and exciting hearing him talk of gambling and fantasy as ways to generate more interest.  At the very least the MLL is now in danger of continuing as a league.  This will be interesting to follow going forward.

Something else from the article that caught my eye.  Rabil didn't start playing the game until he was 12.  Kind of surprising to read for a guy that's considered one of the greats.

Any thought to the popular theory "There can BE only one!"

Most people I've read so far think that whether this is the answer, or more likely the real answer is in between the two leagues, with them cannibalizing each other to some degree will either really take off the way they should?

How'd the Kart/IRL split work out?  Does lacrosse have more fans than open wheel racing, proably but I don't think that having two leagues is in the best interest of the league.  Need all of the best players playing in one league.  I actually kind of like the idea of the PLL, we were out of town this weekend and missed  them at homewood field.  Having said that I've still always viewed college, as the pinnacle of the sport so they have work to do just to keep me interested.

Here's a really long good read from the Ringer.

Haven't finished it yet myself but it's worth checking out.

I just don't think it's a model that works in pro sports. If you are going to have a pro league, it's gotta be viewed as the ONE highest level. Having two on equal footing, I just don't know how fans get engaged enough to pay and support teams like that. Is it worth it, if the other league seems like the REAL best in the country? There's a reason the football leagues all folded into one and why competition with them doesn't stand a chance. Having two NON COMPETING leagues, sure, maybe there's something there, some people like one sport and would watch it year round before another sport. But fighting over the prestige thing is only going to end one way, one will win and the other will go out of business. The WHOLE point of pro level sports is to determine the absolute BEST in the country (or world). Can't have 2 bests.

Seeing a lacrosse forum is such a relief. Even if it isn't super active, at least there's a section listed for it!

The PLL this summer was an awesome success with regards to health, growing and celebrating the game, and most importantly, the quality of the on-field product. I watched all but two games (they were way past my bedtime) and it was the most amped up I had been watching lacrosse on TV in years.

I love the way the league pushes the envelope and is willing to try new things. In a sports world that is often so rigid and plays it safe, the PLL definitely brings a fresh perspective.

I said two years ago when they were launching this that I appreciated the idea, but their only chance of REALLY competing and grabbing a for real marketing share, turning the big 4 into the big 5 was that these guys figured it out and merged.

It's completely fine that they found their way on their own and got started. But for real growth neither could live while the other survived. Kinda sucks it was this way and not the other direction because now our local team is in limbo.

Not sure if they can handle adding all those teams at once, especially with salaries and no fans right now, so I guess it makes sense the way they are doing things, but I'm interested to see which direction to go and if they can carve out a big enough spot to really become a constant draw.

The PLL announced today their plans for 2021 drafts and player movement. To recap:

There will be two waiver and trade windows: February 9 - February 28 and March 30 - May 15.

March 11 - The Cannons LC expansion draft. They will pick 18 players. These players will be from the list of those that are not protected by their current clubs. Each of the other 7 clubs must protect 14 players in total. The Cannons can only pick maximum 3 players per existing team.

March 25 - Entry draft. This is open to new PLL players only, including MLL players from last year. This draft will be 3 rounds, each team has one pick per round and the draft order will be determined via lottery.

April 6 - College draft. The order is based on 2020 final rankings, with the Atlas receiving first pick. There are four rounds in this draft that is open to incoming collegiate athletes only.

Chris Hogan, former Super Bowl Champion for the Patriots, has declared for the PLL Entry Draft. He is in the pool of players to be picked come March 25th.

Hogan has not played competitive lacrosse since graduating from Penn State in 2010. He played in 5 games for the Jets this season, catching 14 balls for 118 yards.

What is your take about Hogan in the PLL?
