The US, Canada and Mexico officially announced their joint bid, today.

Interestingly, all matches from the quarters onward would be held in the US. So no third Cup final at Azteca.

USA is clearly the centerpiece of the bid. Canada and Mexico each would hold 10 group/round of 32 matches. While the US gets all the rest. The format still is atrocious with 16 groups of 3 which only guarantees a team two matches. Really stupid and hopefully FIFA will rethink this in the coming years.

With such a strong bid I think it is very likely that the we will win the bid. Now the question becomes can I wait 9 more years to go to a WC?

Why not have it like the WBC? Spread out the pool play around the world. Then have the single elimination rounds in a designated country. North America, Europe, Australia probably the only ones equipped to host the big deal games, so rotate it around the 3 continents each time.

These countries building stadiums with slave labor for one month of use has got to stop.

You didn't even mention the worst part.  The best federations UEFA & CONEMBOL are only getting one or two more entrants for the WC.  Most of the bids will be coming from the weaker federations, even CONCACAF is supposed to get 2-3 more teams, who thinks we need that?

The weaker confederations. AKA the FIFA power base.

USA,Canada & Mexico just won the bid for the 2026 World Cup!

For the longest time this seemed like a lock, but there had been some concern that it may go to Morroco instead because of a certain president.

Final vote was 134-65

Some potential for Baltimore to get a game.

Baltimore Sun: With 2026 FIFA World Cup awarded to North American bid, Baltimore ...

Will US, Mexico, and Canada all get an Auto-bid into it?

Someone who follows soccer will be able to correct me, but didn't FIFA recently approve an expansion to the amount of countries that would be in the World Cup? I assume that change will be in effect for 2026.

I don't follow, just saw it on the news though. expanding from 32 to 48 teams and will be in effect by 2026.

That's too many teams, IMO.

I'll be closer to 50 than 40 when this comes here.

Damn, thats kind of depressing.

I would like to go to a WC game though.  If there is anything local, I will look into going to a game.

How good are Baltimore's chances of hosting some games?

I don't know but considering Baltimore has the highest ratings for EPL games, we should certainly be considered.

They definitely are being considered.

At the very least, you would think DC gets a game (or more).  More for whoever the President is than anything else.

16 venues I think? I think NY, LA, DC, Philly, Chicago, Atlanta are locks. Figure 3 in Mexico, 3 in Canada. That gives you 4 other options.

Could easily see Baltimore getting squeezed out in favor of the other Northeast cities.

Have to think Boston/Foxboro is a front-runner out of the big 5, Seattle is very likely. Columbus, San Antonio, Dallas maybe in Jerry World. Denver likely. Kansas City. Anywhere they have hosted qualifiers before.

Guarantee in the grand scheme of things people not from here will just call Baltimore and DC the same thing and put it in DC/Fed Ex field.

Business Insider: Here are the cities that will be hosting the 2026 World Cup

http://www.businessi...p-cities-2018-6

Canada and Mexico have already named three host cities each. Matches in Mexico are set to be played in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, while games in Canada are scheduled for play in Toronto, Montreal, and Edmonton, according to Pro Soccer Talk.

The US has submitted 17 cities to host matches, but that list is to be narrowed down to 10 by 2021. Thus far, according to Yahoo, cities in contention to host are New York/New Jersey, Seattle, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Denver, Miami, Houston, Kansas City, Dallas, Los Angeles, Washington, Baltimore, Nashville, Orlando, San Francisco/San Jose, and Cincinnati.

This is where the violence/riots can't possibly help. Hope it happens somehow. I mean DC would be neat enough, but not the same.
