Stealing this one from the BS Pod.  Could be good as I know there are several BSL'ers with kids out there.  So use this thread to post any stories, tips, questions, anecdotes about your kids.

Here's one to start the thread...

My youngest (just turned 3) is refusing to potty train. My older two, both girls were way easier to train and were both done with pullups by this time.  He's good about going if you take him in there to do his thing but he refuses to let you know when he's gotta go.  Ready to be done with these damn pullups.

We started potty training our son at 2.5.

He took to peeing pretty well. He had accidents but after a few weeks, they were few and far between.

But when he started school back in Sept, the pooping got better and now (he just turned 3 last month), he is basically potty trained totally.

The occasional accident happens but it’s usually because he is playing with friends or something like that and just gets lost in that.

Just have to keep at it. They say girls are easier than boys to potty train, so just being routine and not getting frustrated (that’s the hard part) is all you can do.

The not getting frustrated is the hardest part, this is kiddo #3 so my patience for things like this isn't what it was.  We sticking to the routine and that's helping, we generally only use one pullup a day.  Half the time he can even hold his pee for the whole night so I know wants he's totally ready it will be quick!

That’s the thing with our son. He can’t hold it at night still. Had to wear a diaper at night and that thing is full.

I don’t know when to expect that to happen. From what we have read, the diaper will just start to be dry and then you know.

But I don’t know if we should just go diaper less and see what happens or if it’s one of those “he will tell you” type things.

That's pretty much the way to go. My second daughter was like this.  Picked up the potty training very easily but needed the pullup at night for a while after being potty trained.   One idea that can kind of help is just try to limit the drinks before bedtime.  Maybe an hour or so before bedtime to try and cut it out.  Just something that might help.

Yea, we aren’t consistent with that. He’s always asking for some water close to bedtime.

Tough to deny them that but at some point, you have to.

Ugh, remember those days. We let them take their time, and right before they turned 3 we told them, no more diapers at 3, so you gotta get this down. Both of them pretty much trained themselves in a weekend, it was nice. Now changing diapers again I can't WAIT to get to that stage.

We got really lucky with my kid. It was frustrating, but pretty quick. He had it down well before 3, and he's 7 now. A week in (and he was doing pretty well), we put him in pull-ups and "protected" the bed). He had it down within 10 days after that.

We have other issues (him crawling into our bed late at night, for one), but that's one where I think we nailed it.

Here's a little parenting hack that saves a few bucks and a trip to the store.  Birthday parties, every kid has them and who has time to go to the store to get another card.  Here's what you do, get your kid to make a birthday card for said party.  Saves you a few bucks and a trip and gets you some bonus points for something a little more personable.  It's win-win.

I am not sure if there is anything I hate buying more than cards.

Oh yeah, we've 100% been on this for about 4 years now. Fighting to get them to MAKE said card 5 min before you have to leave for the party a whole different ballgame though.

We don't do it often, but when we DO, my kid loves this type of thing.

Forgot to do Tooth Fairy duties for Kid #2 on Saturday night. She came in our room Sunday morning and was none to pleased about it.  Quickly referenced the bad T-Storms that passed through on Saturday night as the reason for no money being there which seemed to appease her enough.  I wrote a note on my hand  last night so I wouldn't forget again.

Oh man. We've been good about it for 9 years. This year the clever little booger, who has been testing the waters with us, and trying to initiate THE TALK about Santa, the Tooth Fairy etc. baited us. Instead of putting it under her pillow, she left them out on the counter downstairs, without telling us, and then it was still there in the morning. I fired back, well that's cause you didn't put it under your pillow...duh. So the last one she lost at school, didn't tell us she lost it, put it under her pillow, and the next morning goes, so Daddy....

That led to Easter when she goes, "so Daddy, I think we need to talk...I don't think there's an Easter Bunny. Cause it's REALLY convenient that all the candy in our easter basket is EXACTLY the same candy as the stuff we have out in bowls and for decorations, between that, the tooth thing, and that silly Elf, I've got doubts" I just stared at her a minute, and she had that look where you are caught, she knows exactly how you're going to try to answer and she's got another card she's about to play, where you are just trapped. I had to take her in the other room and own up to all of it quietly away from her sisters.

Were not there yet with the older one (she's 8) but I feel like she's close.  I love the joy and happiness it brings her so I won't say anything until she does.

A year or so ago the oldest lost a tooth in the middle of the night,  nothing like being woken up at 2:30 in the morning then having to stay awake for a half hour or so before your kid falls back asleep so you can do your thing.

Yeah we suspected that she had put it together last year being 8, but same as you didn't want to bring it up if she wasn't there yet. So she started to talk about it one day, and then was like NOPE, I'm good just how things are. Over the year I think she just couldn't ignore stuff she knew was off. So now she's in on THIS side of the fence and excited to help keep things alive for her sisters.
