Interesting thing here. Adidas reps/employees have been named, all assistants are at Nike or UA schools. I have no idea beyond that

I haven't read through everything but in a nutshell, shoe companies (mainly Adidas) have paid high school players to go to Adidas schools to then sign a contract with Adidas professionally later on. Adidas would also pay coaches to entice those players to go to whatever school. A lot of this is "no shit that's what happening." But what's interesting is that, of the four assistant coaches involved, two are Nike coaches and one is Under Armour.

It seems like this particular investigation is about Brian Bowen, who ultimately is a freshman at Louisville this year.

What's big here is that this isn't some little investigation by the NCAA. It's the FBI.

Apparently they paid players with federal government financial aid money.

How fucking stupid can these guys get.

I am naive I guess. While it makes sense, and I always expected Apparel companies working as "recruiters", I'm still taken back by this. This is really bad.

How?? There is illegal shit going down at a lot of JUCO and Div 3 level schools. You really think the big boys aren't pulling out all the stops.

Oh and as bad as it is in CBB just imagine what's going on in CFB. You're talking millions and millions of more money available.

Wow. Is it contractual? So many questions as to how this was able to fly.

Sounds like it involved more than just shoe companies. In some cases the coaches were paid to steer kids towards certain agents and financial advisors.

Yup. Tip of the iceberg too. Sounds like there will be further investigations, which will clearly rope in more players, coaches, schools.

This could go down at the day all hell broke lose in college basketball.  The kind of stuff many people were afraid was going on just got their first public airing, not by ESPN but by the FBI.  I don't want to get over excited about this, but I'm also not sure that is even possible.  If, as many of the experts chiming in over the last couple of hours, this is just the beginning, this would probably be the worst, most wide spread scandal to hit college basketball since the gambling scandals of the 1950's.  This one could have far larger consequences because college basketball was much larger and has infinitely more money flowing through it than it did then.

This will be a very dark cloud over the sport for a long time.  I'm not sure a whole lot of people connected with the sport should sleep well tonight, or for quite a while.

This is very, very big and terrible for the sport, but the sport has brought it on itself, in my opinion.

Been pondering one question since reading this story:  Would I be willing for Maryland to be caught up in this if Duke was also caught up in it?

I'm really glad Maryland isn't one of the schools listed here, and hope that remains the case.  But I'd really love it if Duke was one of the schools taken down.  I don't think my Duke hate is quite to the level where I'd be ok with the Terps also facing major punishment, but it's close.  I'd definitely feel more schadenfreude over Duke getting busted than I would embarrassment over the Terps being taken down, but the implications of the pending sanctions on Terps basketball would erase that gap.

As someone who still remembers the dark post-Bias years, I don't want MD anywhere near this, even if dook is in it with them.
