Tendinitis in both achilles' although the right is worse by far.  One of the benefits of 20 years of running.  Started having this issue about 12 or so years ago.  Some days are worse than others.  Walking bare foot is bad for it so I try to wear shoes as often as I can.  Bare foot on the sand is brutal.  Coaching my kids soccer teams this fall and if I demonstrate some techniques during the practice, that causes the pain to worsen.

Same. Nasty, nasty allergies.

Also, since my surgeries back in 2012, my wrist gets really painful after being in the cold for a while.

So I need your guys' help on this one. About two months ago I stared feeling a twinge in my lower left back while in Spain. Thinking it was just pains from walking, humping suitcases up and down steps, etc. I thought nothing of it. But since then it's gotten progressively worse and now there's shooting pain from my lower back all the way down to my calf now. Doing some research it seems like I may have Piriformis syndrome or a severe hamstring sprain. Sitting down all day at work doesn't help matters...when I used to stand and walk around it was fine but now it's very sore in the mornings and after I get up after sitting, driving, etc. I've tried to apply heat, stretches, etc. but nothing seems to help.

I want to go to the doctors, but is there a certain specialist I should see? I don't want to go to primary care and have them either A) write it off and tell me to take advil, or B) refer me to a specialist. I'd rather just contact the specialist straight away. Does anyone know what kind of specialist I should see? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this kinda thing.

Just a guess, but if it's sending pain elsewhere you may be looking at a pinched nerve of some sort.  I had a bulging disc in my neck that was pinching a nerve which would send pain, tingling, and numbness all the way down to my fingers.  A Z-pack and then a few weeks of PT solved it and it hasn't come back since.

Call your primary care and ask them for a referral to a specialist to an orthopaedist, perhaps someone who specializes in back/spine if you think that's it and not a hamstring.  That is if you need a referral for insurance purposes in the first place.

Also, you'll look like a doof, but you could see if your work will give you a standing desk instead of sitting all day.  Multiple people with back pain at my office use those and swear by them as being a great help.

I'm working on that.

Shame that it has to be such a hassle but I think one is coming down the pipeline.

Z pack for a pinched nerve? did it help with the inflammation?

Z pack for a pinched nerve?

Nope.  You're right, not a Z-pack.  It was a prednisone pack.  Reduced swelling and inflammation and made my pain go away nearly instantly.  It was magic.

One time thing? Was it a shot? Sounds like it's a serious steroid.

I'm definitely going to do the PT and stretching recommended.

It was a week of pills.  7 the first day, 6 the next, tapering down to just 1.

Cool.

I'll ask about it when I go see a doctor. I think I'm going to give it a week of serious stretching and PT and see where that gets me.

If you have pain in your lower back and its going down your leg, that's a sciatic nerve issue.

This is one of the things that chiropractors are for....

What's happening is that you've got a couple discs that are being squished.... that's the cause, sciatica is a symptom... they're being squished because the vertabrae they're between are not parallel like they're supposed to be... the fix is to get them parallel again, which will remove the symptom-causing pressure on the disc's.... time to take your vertabrae into the alignment shop....

Finally made a doctor appointment today. The pain has gotten worse. So bad that getting up in the morning has become dreadful. I think it's a herniated disc based on what I've read about the pain I've been having.

Update? My dad has had bulging and ruptured disc issues in the past, and what you described as far as the pain made me think of his problems, because sciatic nerve issues came with all that.

This is the worst. Or was, then I found Mary Jane. Immediately stopped that crap, at least for me. One of my crazier hypochondriac episodes: I was getting sick a lot a few years ago, constantly feeling run down, etc. When you look up symptoms like that, it will mention HIV. One of my ex's dated a heroin junky, so I made the logical leap that he must have given her HIV, and her to me. I took a $50 test behind a CVS, freaking the eff out waiting for the results. What an awful night.

As for allergies - With increasingly toxic air, and many other factors, a lot of people have allergy symptoms. Myself included. I finally broke down and saw an allergist earlier this year, and after a few different and extensive tests, found out that I'm allergic to... nothing. This helped me pay mind to the dust around the house, in my car, office, etc. I've started to really stay on top of that a lot more. Haven't gone this long without having an "allergy" event/attack since I was a kid. All these years, I just assumed it was allergies, started popping Claritin or the like in late Feb... stopped in end of May/June, and then picked it back up in early September for the fall.
