It probably won't happen in the end, but I can't rule it out because.... well.... it's the Knicks.  What a laughable job Phil Jackson has done.  As great as he was as a coach, he's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum as a GM.

What opportunity has there been to formidable rebuild that franchise? Isn't full autonomy sort of an issue there (IE blowing it completely up instead of doubling down on Carmelo Anthony). Genuinely curious as just a casual fan, but it seems the Knicks are just nowhere close, while also true that they're nowhere closer than before Phil took over. That said, I don't think there's much he could've done to make that team a legitimate contender anyway. Am I wrong?

Apparently the Lakers are trading D'Angelo Russell and someone else for Brook Lopez and pick 27.

I think Phil actually has had a lot of control. Their owner sucks, but it's not because he interferes much, it's because his hiring choices are poor and he remains loyal to them.

His insistence on running the triangle is a big problem, but his player moves haven't been anything to write home about other than the Porzingis pick.

They are also dumping Mozgov onto the Nets.

What a dumb signing that was along with Deng.

I would say this trade is dumb, but if it gets them into a cap situation where they can bring in LeBron or another superstar to go along with George, then it might be worth it. Would be nice if they could dump Mozgov and/or Deng at a lesser cost though.

BTW, back to the problem with the predictability of the league....I do think it's a problem, but it's funny how it usually seems more predictable in retrospect. Just on here, there weren't that many predictions, but there were some that differed from the result, even at least one that didn't even have the right Finals match-up. Hell, I even thought the Cavs were vulnerable in the East and then talked myself into believing they'd be more of a challenge to the Warriors after Cleveland was so great in the prior rounds.

So yes, the league is relatively predictable, but many people do talk themselves into other teams having a chance and plenty of fans do have legitimate hope in their teams (even if misguided), and those that don't do that get surprised more often than they'd cared to admit.

Lakers trying to package a bunch of crap for Paul George

I heard on a podcast, probably The Lowe Post, that some executives are hoping this happens because they think that George may not be as excited to stay long-term with LA if he plays for a bad Lakers team next year. Of course if they can lure LeBron or some other star to join him and Ball, Ingram, Randle, etc, then it would be a moot point.

Regardless, if the Lakers are very confident that he'll want to sign with them next summer, I would prefer to wait it out unless he can really be had for just a bunch of crap. I'm dubious of that, though.

Dan Gilbert decided not to bring back their GM, David Griffin.

LeBron was not happy about that and tweeted as such.

Anyway, Griffin, whom was working on potential trades for George or Butler was kind of enough to leave his plans to the front office.

Dwight Howard traded to Charlotte in a basic salary dump.

Man, has he fallen!

He was the type of player that was great in large part due to being a phenomenal athlete. Once he became just a very good athlete, he fell off a ton.

Per source, Jimmy Butler has informed Cavs that he wants to stay in Chicago rather than be traded to Cleveland.

Howard 's career has turned into one of the great disappointments.  I have to wonder did he stop working once he got paid.

Probably very true.  I do not think he was one to every work on his game.

Poor Lebron, he can just never get to play on a super team.

Back problems and aging have taken away some of the explosiveness that made him great.
