This guy was the O's highest international signing in 2015.

Eh. I mean he held his own. Worked down in the zone...too early to tell. I think he's 19

Does he usually have more velocity?  88-91 MPH, even for a lefty, means he'll have to have awfully good command and offspeed pitches if he wants to start.  Not a whole lot of separation between the FB and CH, but if he's throwing a 83 MPH change, you'd think he'd at least be able to be in the low 90s consistently with the heater.

I have no idea, to be honest. He was signed during the off-season and this was his second pro outing. 88-91 mph will just lump him with the rest of the orioles pitchers.

Is this guy actually worth keeping a closer eye on now via his own page?

http://www.baseball-...id=wells-000ale

24.1 IP, 1.11 ERA, 20 K's, 4 BB's and .945 WHIP. And he's a lefty. And only 20 years old.

Things going for him.

1. His stats are great

2. He's only 20 years old

3. He's left handed

Things going against him

1. He throws a 87-88 mph fastball

He's worth keeping an eye on but he's going to have to prove himself every step of the way.   The kid knows how to pitch.   It's just a question of his stuff getting more experienced hitters out.

Maybe he can find a way to tick up into the low 90s. What's his build?

Edit: Listed at 6'1 and 190. I would think some room to fill out

Everyone once in a while, if it's a lefty, these guys can get it done.

It remains all about his control and his secondaries. Does anyone know how he's getting it done? I haven't read too much on him.

Does he have a great change like Moyer? Is it control? Is it guys chasing?

As noted, the numbers are there, I'd be interested to know more about how the numbers were arrived to in that process.

In the 5 starts since this last post, he's put 5 QS to the tune of a 1.69 ERA over those 5 starts. In 32 IP, he's got 26 K's. And while not staggering numbers, that's a a .5 K/9 better than his first 13 starts of 7.3 K/9. Nice to see that tick up and he continues his solid performance.

He reminds me, at least in the way he's talked about, as a better version of Josh Towers that is also left handed. It stunned me to read that Towers was 40, that makes me feel old. But Towers had a 1.6 WAR and 2.5 WAR season in him. If he's better than that, given where we found this guy, that'd be pretty nice.

Crazy:

Wells punches out three in a row after a leadoff double in the 2nd. On the way he had…*gasp*…a THREE-BALL COUNT. First since 7/30.

Still hasn’t walked anybody since June 25, a span of 55 innings. No score after 2. #FlyTogether

This guy is my Mancini like pick. Great stats, but not the "profile" everyone wants...I'm a big fan.
