Other top bands have their own thread...figure the best band in the world should have one to.

New album, "Hardwired...To Self Destruct" comes out on November 18. 2 disc set with 12 songs total. 80 minutes of music.

This is the title track and the first single.

If this song is any indication, they are really getting back to their thrash roots on the new album, 30 years after Master of Puppets was released.  First new album in 8 years (Death Magnetic, 2008)

Hopefully their tour brings them close to BMore.

I like Metallica.  Don't LOVE them, but they're an OK listen when I'm in the mood.

If they come around I'd go see 'em again.

As an aside, I don't know how James Hetfield's vocal chords haven't exploded yet.

I saw them at summer sanitarium when they came to PSInet. Same concert Ponson and Erickson went to and got in trouble for. The Metallica crowd is not a casual one. Harvester of Sorrow and Sanitarium got maybe the biggest cheers.

Saw them in Tampa when I lived down there in 2004. The St. Anger tour, and they played only one song off that album. Even they knew it sucked. Lol. Awesome show though. Godsmack opened. Also awesome.

I remember that one and wanted to go so bad but couldn't. I like Powerman 5000 a lot and they were there too.

Didn't a fan jump or fall off the upper deck at that concert?

It's a poor man's version of Battery.  But yeah not bad, hopeful the rest of the album is decent.  I do love me some old school Metallica, even the Black Album and some of the stuff off Load/Reload even though that's when everyone says they sold out.

I saw them on the back end of the Black Album tour, when we had real rock concerts still visit Johnson City. They really rocked, and they seemed like genuinely decent guys.

Sounds like they plan on it. But their tours of late consist of California, Europe, and South America. And one off festival shows. I think they made it as close as DC for the Death Magnetic tour but I couldn't go that time around. Might be the last decemt tour they make, so I'll go as far as it takes to see em one more time. East of the Mississippi that is.

I dunno, we can always hope for a last go round in like 20 years when they play all the old stuff people like.

That will probably happen, but how much stamina and dexterity will they have then?

There are some bands who can still put on a great show in their older years, but Metallica is faster and more intricate than them.

I'll be interested to hear it when I get a chance.  While I liked Death Magnetic, I feel like they overcorrected from St. Anger and wound up making something more like Kill 'Em All, which had more disjointed songs, than some of their later smooth transitioning tracks.  Based on the first two songs they released, I think this might be more along the lines of Death Magnetic/more traditional thrash metal than their music that really resonated with me.

They might, but those are still the people that religiously show up to their shows. And if you are the best at something so specific, then go for it.

I mean, we aren't getting Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets ever again, time moves on, but stylistically I think that's their home base
