It's all good. I know nothing about him, so am trying to reserve judgment. What are your initial thoughts?

I know little of MacLellan, other than he's been with the franchise for quite some time. So much for that "fresh set of eyes and new voice" Ted promised, I guess.

Think so. Might be more of a group thing. I know they went to Trotz to approve though.

@tsnsimmer Shocking hiring of Brian MacLellan. I've never met a lazier/less passionate hockey man. @washcaps At times you shake your head. #Laughable

Ha....had no idea who that was at first based on the Twitter handle. Since MacLellan was the guy who replaced Simpson after he was fired, I'll take it with a grain of salt.

@CSNMA Tune in at 12:30pm today for LIVE coverage of the #Caps' introduction of new Head Coach Barry Trotz & GM Brian MacLellan. #CapitalsTalk

Guessing this will be streamed on Monumental's website, maybe others?

Yeah. Unofficial word is that Trotz has way more than just coaching responsibilities, and it's more of a figure head GM. I mean works for both sides really because he never would have gotten a GM job, and no other GM was going to give Trotz the amount of control he's getting.

I showed off enough calling Trotz as the coach and got in trouble a little bit, so I couldn't call the GM thing too since it was so out of LF, or I was gonna get cut off :)

Word on the street is that deciding factor for Ted was that he wants more free agent signings, and good cap management. Wasn't going to get at least one of those with GMGM.

Only question left now is how is Trotz going to alter his scheme to fit a team with so many offensive weapons. Trying to force offensive players to be something they aren't is going to be trouble, and having too many one dimensional players is going to keep them from being able to change.

Good chance there are some moves this offseason.

The first thing he needs to do is get rid of the defensive dead weight (I'm looking at you, Mike Green... Amnesty?). Second, I'd definitely look to move a forward or two for some top end two-way or ace defenseman.

He needs a couple offensive defensemen in his system, think Weber and Suter, and no way you amnesty Green, teams around the league would GOBBLE him up. If you move him, you deal him in a pretty big trade, he's no salary dump.

I think the question is going to come in with the special teams type guys. Can his 3rd and 4th line guys be good enough to run his system? I think he's going to need a line of defensive specialists, and I just don't know how that happens with this roster. Questions about the OTHER defensemen too, the offensive ones will have their jobs, but the guys that need to actually play defense are a question...like you said.

Wish they would have listened to me and got Weber a couple years ago when they could have.

With Green on the ice, the Capitals outshot their opponents. And that's with being paired with Jack Hillen for an extended period of time. You don't amnesty a guy like that.

Lots of work going on for Caps right now. Evaluation, planning, etc.

Hear that they plan on making some moves, adding, more than subtracting. Looking to add a big time defensive D man. Like big minute guy. No one out there in FA really, so probably have to be a trade. Holtby is also the guy, looking for a veteran backup, and Grubs may be dangled as trade bait.

Grabs is in the mix for #2 center, they have to evaluate cap money though, and adding a Dman might not leave much money for what he's going to want. Spezza could have been another option but they don't want to deal the pieces it's going to cost for him.

Hearing that Ryan Kesler is being considered. Certainly the kind of guy that Trotz has had a ton of success with. Put him with Kuzy and Wilson and that's a pretty darn solid second line. Also, hearing that if they can't get Grabo or Kesler, the Capitals will probably move Kuznetsov to center.

They are asking for a small franchise for Kesler so I wouldn't count on that. Spezza is cheaper. This regime wants to build from within though premium on picks and prospects. Maybe one move and then hoarding mode is my guess.
