Foodspin: You Like Bacon Because They Told You To

Ah, but like so many other things, this myth turns out to be what anthropologists refer to as "a big ol' load of poo." According to this fun and informative Businessweek history of the bacon craze, actually, you love bacon because you are a tool of your corporate overlords.

I totally knew that was coming. From the moment I made that the title.

It's true.  Bacon is good, but it's not as good as this latest obsession fad makes it out to be.

You can get scrapple at the store that has bits of bacon in it, yes this is a thing!

Yeah. I dont need a bacon flavored milkshake. But I could kill a pound of it by myself.

Question...crispy, or soft? I prefer soft. I wanna chew on the fat. If it cracks when you bend it, its cooked too much.

I'm not that big of a bacon fan actually. It's a nice accent piece, but the obsession is baffling. I do understand how that came to happen on an intellectual level though.

Crispy all the way. Crispy, thick bacon is the way to go.

Worthless white air-bread is good for 2 things:

* Tomato and mayo sandwiches (with some salt)... IFF the maters come from the garden, not the supermarket;

* Warm-crispy-bacon and melty-real-butter sandwiches.  (If the bacon has cooled but is really, really crispy, then cold real-butter works too.)

These facts are among the few things that currently have nothing to do with corporate overlords...

As far as scrapple goes, do you guys like the thin crispy slices or big bricks of it?  Also try it with mustard.

I cut it about a half inch thick so you get the best of both worlds...crispy on the outside, soft inside.

Bob Evans breakfast sausage patties beat both bacon AND scrapple. Especially on toast with a runny egg.

I'm not sure if I've ever had scrapple in something.  Maybe an omelet, but I've never used it as many ways as I use bacon.  Both are damn near perfect with some buttery grits and sunny side eggs as a hangover curing breakfast.

Scrapple is one of the few things I'll put ketchup on.

I don't put a damn thing on scrapple. It's too good by itself.

I do fix my own wraps a lot. Scrambled egg, fried potatoes, scrapple, and cut up sausage links. Kills anything you can buy in public.
