I'm from Pennsylvania and I've never had scrapple.  And I'm PA Dutch.  I am ashamed.

That's just...I mean...wow.

Stop and get some on the way home tonight and thank us tomorrow.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

This is threadjacking, but it's a thread about bacon so it's not the most serious (though it is delicious) and it's already been jacked into a scrapple and even spam thread, so...here goes.  The PA Dutch comment got me thinking about another favorite food item of mine:  Birch Beer.

Is birch beer the best soda or the only soda?  Pennsylvania Dutch brand makes a very good birch beer, but this is the best one I've come across:

My good friend and former roommate used to work for this company when he lived in Hoboken.  He would send me a case of it every month, and would bring several cases (mixed with some of their other flavors) whenever he visited.  I don't drink soda very much at all, but oh man, I'm a total slut for some birch beer.

I like my bacon just on the edge where it becomes crunchy. I know people that prefer it cooked almost black; I can't stand that, it's like eating burnt rubber.

It's been years since I've eaten scrapple. Maybe back in scouts.

Speaking of scouts and Spam, we used to do spam-and-eggs for breakfast on many of our camping trips. Mostly because it didn't matter who cooked, because it was almost impossible to screw up.

It's also been years since I had birch beer. I used to get it whenever possible when I was young (I think because they served it at the Pizza Hut we always went to).

I never thought I'd meet bacon snobs, Christ.  Shocker these are the same people that love xFIP and rWAR ;-)

It's bacon, cruchy, soft, warm, cold, who cares.

Fucking eat it.

Didn't know that there was a fellow scout on the board. Our go-to breakfast was sausage and bacon. We would never do pancakes because we always f'ed them up.

A ton of places down Ocean City have birch beer for some reason. Grotto's in particular.

I'm just stating my preference. I'll eat it almost any way (except for the aforementioned burnt).

Do you guys keep your bacon drippings for other uses?  I keep it in a mason jar in the fridge (coffee filter works great for filtering out any burnt cooking bits).

Bacon grease in a cast iron skillet is the only way to make cornbread or pan-fried potatoes.  Great starting point for a pot of chili.  Mix some melted bacon grease into the batter instead of oil for awesome pancakes or waffles.  Basically any place you would use butter or oil and would like some additional smokey porky flavor, use some bacon grease instead of some or even all of it.

Yup, nothing better than making bacon and then using the grease for pancakes.
