Mosley:
It has been a bit of a bounce-back year for the Senior. After seeing his numbers dip across the board last year, he is consistently playing better. As a Soph, Mosley averaged 10.1ppg, shooting 50.1% from the floor, 39% from 3, 81% from the line, 5.1 boards, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.

Last year the scoring dipped to 8.1ppg, 41.3% from the floor, 27% from 3, 77% from the line, 3.8 boards, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals.

This year, the scoring is up to 10.9ppg, 44% from the floor, 42% from 3, 84% from the line, 5.2 boards, 1.6 assists, and 0.8 steals. What is interesting is that Mosley is attempting more 3's than ever (3.4 per game this yr. vs. 1.6 last yr) and making a higher percentage than ever.

Parker:
The athletic Parker was a Top 50ish player in the class of 2010, who played sparingly as a Freshman. With a thin roster, Parker has seen his minutes per game jump from 6.2 last year to nearly 23 as a Sophomore. It will be interesting to see if his minutes change at all with Howard and Len getting back into the rotation.

In Maryland's 9 games, Parker has scored at-least 5 points six times. He has had at-least 5 boards four times. His athleticism has been best on display with his work on the glass and occasionally shown in transition. I've been surprised that we have not seen more dunks from Parker.

He typically plays hard, but he often is prone to lazy mistakes. I've noticed several mental lapses on in-bounds in the back-court and the baseline. He is 3 of 11 on 3 point attempts, with just 2 attempts in the last 4 games combined. He is shooting just 48% from the foul line (14 of 29). Remarkably he has had two games where he was 0 for 4, and one game where he was 6 for 6. His best two games of the year have been against Colorado and Notre Dame. Those were also the two games where he played the most minutes. Might be a guy that just needs additional time on the court to feel comfortable.

Watching his development the rest of the year will be interesting.

Faust:
I like the Freshman Faust a lot, but he has been a different player than I expected. The Scouting reports I saw on Faust pointed to a pretty quality shooter, especially from intermediate range, with mediocre athleticism. He is not a LaRon Profit, Stevie Francis type of athlete; but he has better quicks and hops than advertised. Conversely, his shot has not been as good as I thought he might be. When he works hard on the defensive end, his long-arms cause problems for opposing players.

Of course any evaluation of Faust's early play has to be clearly cognizant of the fact that he has been playing out of position at the 1. The jump to College is a transition for any player. For Faust to have been as relatively productive as he has been, considering he has had to worry about trying to run the offense, is impressive overall.

Through the initial 9 games of his collegiate career, Faust is averaging 7.1 ppg, 3.8 boards, 2.4 assists, and 1.2 steals. He has had 5 games with at-least 7 points, and 2 games with at-least 13 points.

On the other-hand, Faust is averaging just 29% from the floor, 18.5% from 3 (5 of 27), and 52.5% (21 of 40) from the FT line. Ouch. With Howard coming back to run the offense, hopefully Faust will become a more consistent scorer. At the minimum, his production at the foul line needs to improve drastically. He's made 9 of his last 12 from the charity stripe, so maybe that improvement has begun.

One other thing I want to see Faust do, is use his size to back down smaller defenders. He should be able to get some baskets closer to the hoop.

What are your current thoughts on this trio? To me, what MD gets out of this group will have a huge say of what the Terps are capable of this year.

With Parker and Faust, the question is will they get to the point of providing consistently positive outings this year?

I don't think Parker or Faust will really become consistent performers this year. Both I think will give us big minutes at certain times, but I don't think either will be someone we can rely on every game. They are going to have their bad games. But they'll also have their good games. The trick will be seeing how long it takes to recognize if either or both are having one of those particularly good or bad games, and then making sure they get more minutes than normal either on the court or on the bench. They both are essentially freshman seeing how little Parker played last year. That 6.3 mpg is a bit misleading, he only played in 13 games, so he averaged about 2:30 of playing time a game.

I like both as contributors over the next few years. I don't know if both will develop into solid starters, but the talent is there for both. I think Faust ends up the better player overall, and probably will start at the 3 next year with Peshon and Howard in the backcourt, Len and Cleare in the front court. One of those guys are going to be very important next year, as that wing spot fits both nicely and will likely be open, unless Layman really comes on strong and grabs a hold of it (or if we get another commitment). Each brings a bit of a different feel to that position, Faust brings more of the 2-guard mentality to the 3-spot and Parker has a bit more inside play to his game. I think they could be a nice combo at the 3 next season, or maybe one of them will really step up and just take that spot over.
