Scotland independence was interesting for the idea of national pride within a united nation and theoretical economic issues.

 

Catalonia is interesting because of real economic problems, and the fact that there's at least a chance that it gets aggressive, of not violent.

 

Also, there are some major pro-democracy protests going on in Hong Kong right now, with blocked streets and everything.

There is a 12:00 midnight deadline set by the protesters in Hong Kong for the Beijing-chosen governor of the territory to resign, with threats of taking over government buildings if that demand isn't met. Police are barricading several buildings and, even though there has been relatively little physical resistance so far, the threat of police (or military) action is still there.

 

In other words, in the next hour or so things may get very interesting in that part of the world...
