No, you definitely have to be on the 40 man by Sept 1. For example, since Christian Walker is not on the 40 man he could not play in the postseason even if the Os added him to the 40 man and played him in Sept. There might even be more to it than that. Someone will come in and clarify.

As per http://en.wikipedia....aseball_rosters
To be eligible for the postseason active roster, a player must have either been on that team's active roster or disabled list as of midnight ET on August 31 of that year and not placed on the 60 day disabled list after August 1.[3] The one exception is for replacing players on the disabled list. Any injured player who is eligible for postseason play may be replaced by any player that was on an active or disabled list for either that team or any of its affiliated minor league teams at midnight August 31.[4] Players who do not participate in one game in the Majors before September 1 with the team's organization of the regular season will be declared ineligible for the team's 25-man active roster of the postseason and must be placed on either the restricted list or the secondary squad.
Players who are part of the team's final roster regardless of spending a majority of time in the Minors, being acquired in trades or waivers, serving the rest of the season on any inactive transactions such as the disabled list, or signing later for the team in the regular season will be eligible to receive a championship ring when the team wins the World Series.

Thanks. Pretty much what I thought. So, Johnson will have to be put on the 25 man roster by midnight tonight to be eligible for the postseason roster.
My guess is Parades will be sent down for a day or two.

right....but you can't get Ubaldo off the 25 today and he's unlikely part of the postseason roster. So there's something else there.
The paragraph before the one cited looks more correct, but again, the challenge of using wikipedia.
Postseason roster is likely.....
DeAza
Jones
Markakis
Kelly
Hardy
Schoop
Davis
Joseph
Cruz
(first 9)
Hundley
Pearce
Young
Flaherty
Lough
(5 man bench)
Tillman
Gonzalez
Chen
Norris
Gausman
(4 Starters+1)
Britton
ODay
Miller
Hunter
Matusz
McFarland
(6 relievers....plus the 5th starter is in the pen)
both Ubaldo and Brach are on the 25-man today (active roster) but aren't likely to make the postseason roster.

Anyway yeah the exact 25 men today are not the ones that have to play on the postseason roster but you had to be on our ML roster at some point this season by today.
So, for example, I take that as Webb will be available to be on the postseason roster even though he won't be on the active roster by tonight.

Brach probably stays over McFarland but yeah that's likely the postseason roster.

Or just on the 40 man I thought. You could take anyone from the 40.

Brach is better, can go multiple innings and one of your starters can be the long man.

No reason to have TJ Mac over Brach.

....or Buck may want the multi-inning LHer.
He'll have 3 RHers in ODay, Hunter nad the odd starter
....he could add 3 LHers with Miller, Matusz (only as a LOOGY) and McFarland

In a 5 game series, you don't need more than 10 pitchers anyway.
I'd go with Tillman, Chen, Gonzo, Norris, Hunter, Brach, Miller, O'Day, Britton and Gausman.

If we play someone like KC who has a Gordon and Hosmer who you know isn't going to be pinch hit for Matusz has more value. If you face a team without a lot of or less valuable lefties then I could see Matusz being left off.

Matusz must be rostered if we're playing the Angels, because of Hamilton, but otherwise he needs to be buried.

Or the Mariners. TJ should be on the roster at that point too.

Nice for Johnson to have his first moment where he can feel like part of the team.
