Inside MD Sports: http://maryland.247s...-Maryland-74410

Pretty big addition for Maryland at this stage of the game. Aronhalt recently graduated from Albany, and will be immediately eligible for the Terps this coming year. He RS his Freshman year.

This past season he was 2nd team All American East.

The 6'3 210 lb guard had the following notable games this past year:

@Pittsburgh: 13 pts (5 of 11 from the floor, 1 of 6 from 3), 5 boards
@Syracuse: 20 pts (6 of 18 from the floor, 4 of 11 from 3), 5 boards, 2 steals
@Maryland: 13 pts (4 of 17 from the floor, 2 of 9 from 3), 6 boards, 2 steals

Is he going to be an All ACC player? No, you would expect not. However, he has plenty of experience, having averaged over 30+ mts per game the last two years, and having averaged 14.6 ppg, and 13.8 ppg during that span.

In '11-'12 he was 60 of 159 from 3 (35%), and shot 89% from the FT line. You would expect him to be able to knock down some shots, and be on the court in close/late situations to help close out games at the line.

Terps 2012-13 Roster:
Guards: Faust (Soph) Howard (Jr), Aronhalt (Senior), Allen (Freshman), Cassell Jr. (Freshman)
Wings: Layman (Freshman)
Bigs: Padgett (Sr), Pankey (Soph), Len (Soph), Cleare (Freshman), Mitchell (Freshman), Dodd (RS)

This will also give the Terps the flexibility of using Aronhalt at the 2G, and Faust again getting some time on the wing.

We definitely needed more depth with Stoglin now gone and Pe'shon rehabbing, but I would've preferred more of a PG to a SG. He should be a nice addition though, and allow Allen and Cassell to come along at their own pace and not be forced into a starting role too early.

Yep, another PG would have been great, but I'm pretty excited about the guard depth.

You nailed it with Allen and Cassell.

I think Aronhalt's addition means more than his individual talent.

I think Turgeon is trying to keep 3 scholarships available for next year. Aronhalt only has one year left so he comes off the books, after the 12-13 season. I doubt whether there are any point guards that fit that profile available for next season.
They found someone who will provide the outside shot, creating space for all the new post players, give them an extra option at guard without tieing up another ship for 2013. Pretty slick move IMO.
