Another music thread for Ricker

One of my little pet projects to eventually get around to is to rank my 100 favorite albums ever and then try to acquire each one in vinyl.  This will not be an easy task as I haven't even ranked my top 10 favorite albums yet.  I do, however, have a top 5, that I think is pretty set in stone.

1)  Abbey Road - The Beatles

2)  OK Computer - Radiohead

3)  Bringing it all Back Home - Bob Dylan

4)  The Beatles - The Beatles

5)  Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan

6-10 would feature some other Beatles, probably Blonde on Blonde or Blood on the Tracks by Dylan, maybe Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce, Let it Be by the Replacements, etc etc.

As you can see, this is a tough task.

What are some of your favorite albums?

Oh man, Master of Puppets vs Ride the Lightning is such a hard one to decide on.  I give the edge to Lightning but it's so slight.  I'd have to do some pondering to figure out my top ten, but Ride is definitely in it.

1. Ok Computer, Radiohead
2. You & Me, The Walkmen
3. Heaven, The Walkmen
4. Bizzare Ride II The Pharcyde, The Pharcyde
5. The Suburbs, Arcade Fire

7. Teen Dream, Beach House
8. Ready to Die, Notorious BIG
9. Low End Theory, A Tribe Called Quest
10. Boxer, The National

Probably forgetting a bunch if others so I may come back and edit.

Yeah, I'm not going to do the classic albums, because I honestly haven't listened to my favorite classic albums enough to integrate them fairly yet. I'll revisit that.

Brand New - Deja Entendu

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs

Radio Head - OK Computer

Green Day - Dookie

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP

Radio Head - The Bends

Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory

Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism

Arcade Fire - Funeral

Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape

Evanescence - Fallen

AC/DC -Highway to Hell

Breaking Benjamin - Phobia

AC/DC - Back in Black

Metallica - Ride the Lightning

Linkin Park - Meteora

Tool - Undertow

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP

Sevendust - Black Out the Sun

I thought about putting Dirt on mine, but I'm not crazy about the filler on that album and I actively dislike Rooster.  If we were doing top songs though, Down in a Hole would definitely be top 10 and Would would be pretty close.  I'd be curious to see how some albums fell if I continued.  There a few that come to mind that have a lot of good songs that I like (Slippery When Wet, and Pyromania for example), but I'm not sure if they'd fall in my top 25.

We were about to become best friends (like Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in Step Brothers) for our enjoyment of Tool but than you went and said you "actively dislike Rooster"?!?!?!  Oh man.

And I seriously considered also throwing Dirt in my fav album list.

Meteora was so money... a little surprised you like it more than Hybrid Theory though.

Dirt's just further down the list.  As to Rooster, I've just never liked the way that one sounds.

Hybrid Theory is a phenomenal album, that wouldn't be much farther down the list.  Meteora just has a couple more songs that I really like and I think it's slightly more polished overall.  Their corporatization and subsequent decline is my biggest modern musical tragedy.  You can't make your first two albums any better, but outside of a few decent songs on Minutes to Midnight they've been crap since.

A lot of variety on these lists...Great stuff boys..

I'm more of a mellow guy, my love of music was at it's peak during my stoner (Not Chris) years..

Grew up with mellow stuff around the house.

My Father was a "woodstock" guy, loved the mellower stuff, so that's what i was used to.

Anyway, enjoying reading these.

I'm going to have to edit my list soon with classics. Also, very under appreciated, but there is just something to being blasted in the face while listening to "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel. It's just perfect.

Some of my favorites include (in no particular order):

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Billy Joel - The Stranger

Rush - Moving Pictures

Boston - Boston

Journey - Escape

Chicago - Chicago II

Kansas - Point of Know Return

Yes - Fragile

I'm usually a bigger fan of piano-driven rock for whatever reason. That's why Elton John and Billy Joel would rank so high on my list. As a drummer, I'm a massive Rush fan, and my Dad introduced me to Boston, Journey, and Kansas at a very early age. He passed the love of progressive rock on to me.

I have such mixed feelings on Billy Joel. Had he retired in like, 1982, he'd be my absolute all time favorite.

But he didn't. His 1970s stuff is all time good.

But once the "uptown girl" era started, man, just awful in my opinion.
