True, but he has been pretty bad the last 3.

Only this past season has he been bad. 4.31 and 4.07 ERA the two prior years. Not the numbers you'd expect given his stuff though, for sure.

What I think is interesting is that PIT used to be perceived as the place pitchers would go to get fixed....but you look at guys like Morton and Cole, or Archer and they really haven't been that team so much in recent years.

True,  I don't follow organizations much, maybe the philosophies have changed.

Ray Searage was there 2010 thru 2019.  He's been given credit for guys like Liriano, Volquez and AJ Burnett was a notable recovery coming from the Yankees.  Last 3-4 years though, seems like they've thought some things that didn't really work out for them (ie Gerritt Cole was basically Dylan Bundy there).  Searge was let go with the other Organizational changes.

Seems like they've struggled in recent years to find/sell their Organizational vision and the Nightmare stuff makes everything worse (culture?).  Seems like a teams that actually fits needs with the Orioles at a number of levels.and given their regional closeness and market perspective, it feels like they should always look for opportunities to leverage each other.

Interesting-ish blurb on the Pirates and the rebuild. Cherington is quoted as saying the Pirates are in stage one: Talent accumulation. Followed by stage 2 of developing talent, and then stage 3 adding talent via trades and FA.

Where do you see the Orioles with this type of plan? Do you think they are actually following this model?

It feels like the Orioles are somewhere between 1 and 2.  Probably more on the 1 side.

I agree...still accumulating...I think there is a blur of when they hit 2 and then to 3. That's if, of course, if you believe in the 3 step rebuild.

I am not sure what I believe anymore. I guess they will let us know when they want to field a competitive team.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and All-Star pitcher Mitch Keller agreed to a five-year contract on Thursday worth $77 million. The contract, the largest the Pirates have given a pitcher, begins this season and runs through the 2028 season. Keller, 27, is coming off a breakthrough season in 2023 in which he went 13-9 with a 4.21 ERA and made the All-Star team for the first time in his career. Keller, a second-round pick in 2014, endured significant growing pains after arriving in the majors in 2019. He went 7-17 with a 6.02 ERA during his first three seasons and was briefly demoted to the bullpen for a brief stretch in 2022.

Kremer and G-Rod and the other O's SP must be salivating!
