The resurrection of David Toms!

Man the winner of this tourney is gonna be barely under par IMO. The hole placements will only get tougher as the weekend goes on.

I love these kind of tournaments. Make it so par is a good score and a birdie is a real accomplishment. If you can do that, while keeping the course fair, I think you've created a perfect US Open golf course.

In 1998, 4 players finished under par and the winning score was -3.

The course is playing longer now.

The 14 year old is +8, but he has played his last 8 holes at even par.

Wow, Michael Thompson birdies to be the first person in the clubhouse under par with a 4 under 66. Has to be a strong candidate for round of the day.

I'd also expect if he plays even par golf the next 3 days he would win ;)

Even money that he ends up in red figures by the end of his round tomorrow.

Agreed.

I hope Tiger keeps it up. He was fun to watch today, very solid round through and through. Mickelson made some awful shots.

BTW - I have DirecTV, and the US Open features they do are simply fantastic.

It was good for Tiger to have a good 1st round. Really should help him. That said, unlike pretty much any point of his career, I still feel like a complete blow up round is possible. What made Tiger so great was his ability to grind and not blow up. It wouldn't surprise me if he throws up a 76 tomorrow. If he doesn't, and he can put up a couple of 71's the next few days, he'll have a great chance to win it on Sunday. I would guess the winning score is going to be within 2 strokes of par.

Worst Tiger has done at US Open when opening round under par is 3rd and has won twice. This should be an awesome birthday and Father's Day weekend!!

Yea, I could see that too. Tiger hasn't really been able to string together 4 good rounds, for the most part, since all of his issues started.

Now, the counter to that is Tiger is playing better than he has in a while and his swing looks great.

But, he is in the afternoon group today and that is the tougher time to play the course, so we will see.

What time does that group tee off EST?

I may have to skip outta here early...

Projected cut right now is +4. That number will move IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if +6 is the cut line...at least.

With the way things are looking, it may go higher than that.

What do they do?

Rory and Donald have awful first rounds.

They have 4 dedicated channels, in addition to ESPN. The best one is a channel which shows 4 screens with different coverage. One of the options was following Tigers group, which I viewed primarily. All are in HD. Free as part f my sports programming too. It's awesome.

Just a quick look at the leaderboard and it doesn't look like many guys playing well. Fowler and Kuchar both +3, Rose +2.

Only guy really playing well is McDowell but he hasn't played the first 6 holes yet.
