It's that MLB managers, or baseball managing in general is underrated. And HC that don't call their own plays have no claim to being more important. They decide whether to go for it on 4th down and when to call TOs. Maybe set an overall philosophy and identity for the team.
That's exactly what a ML manager does, except his decisions are more often and arguably more crucial.
