Spent a lot of hours in college on the NES w/ TechMo Bowl, Super Mario, RBI Baseball, Blades of Steel, PunchOut.

VGs have come a long way.

My college roommate actually went out and got an arcade sized Donkey Kong game for our dorm room.....then things got out of control!

He could have kept you up at all hours of the night or stolen from you and this fact alone would make him still the best roommate ever.

I mean I grew up on the NES. It's terrific. It changed everything.

That said the SNES perfected 2D gaming.

My SNES is hooked up in my daughter's play room. She loves her Wii u, but has a fondness for the retro stuff too. She was playing Kirby yesterday.

Super Tecmo Bowl is one of the best games ever. Blades of Steel, Tyson, and Bases Loaded were also fantastic sports games. Mario and Contra were of course great too. I also loved River City Rampage.

I had both Genesis and SNES. Genesis was good too. 16 bit ERA is my fav until the current, high def era .

The N64/Playstation stuff doesn't hold up now. And neither does the PS2/XBox era.

The SNES of some classic NES games were great: Super Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Castlevania. Sega Genesis had some really good games too. I actually preferred the Genesis to SNES for a long time before finally coming around to SNES.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

I was (an still am) a big Sega fanboy, so I'm in the same boat.  But as I've gotten older I've appreciated more just how good the SNES was.  And as much as it pains me to say it, I feel like it's held up better over the years than the Genesis did.

Genesis had some great games, it was just up against the best system in history. Those were the golden years.

Sidenote, my sister bought me the genesis that plugs into the red/yellow and has like 50, games on it. That was some great nostalgia.

N64 is the greatest system ever. Super Mario World, Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64 and, the greatest video game ever, Ocarina of Time.
