Well I nailed the Oates hiring 2 years ago, and I hear that Trotz is among the first choices this time (suggested it weeks ago).

Also heard that the GMGM thing was pretty mutual, and it was what took so long with the announcement. Wasn't a slam dunk decision, but after discussing potential fixes and directions there were differences in opinion, so both decided it was probably time. He even made some suggestions on a successor. He won't be unemployed long, already know of a couple teams circling July 2nd on the calendar.

Jeremy - I know you can't share much without getting in trouble - but did the ownership/GMGM differ specifically on Ovechkin? Or was it other stuff they had a different stance on?

Leonsis and Patrick sure didn't present it that way. They talked about how he really liked his job and didn't give any indication he wanted out. If it were the other way around (it not being mutual), I could see them wanting to say it was "mutual." I do agree though it was time.

You and I both know the chances of people saying what actually happened to the media is slim to none though. If they make it seem like he was happy to go, it's going to make the next guy question WHY, before he gets in the door. It was a decision that happened between the 3 of them over the week or so, it wasn't like either side had their mind made up when the season ended. Just not on the same page as far as going forward, which wouldn't be productive for anyone.

Like I said, if it was really mutual, I think they would've said so. I tend to think "mutual" partings don't really happen too often to begin with. That and spending more time with family, I think it's more to diffuse a potential controversy. Not saying it never happens, just doesn't as often as stated.

Ted has the power here, there's only 30 GM jobs, the Caps one is still a good situation, GMGM was there for nearly two decade, did good things, but couldn't do what he ultimately was supposed to do.

Just passing on what I was told, up to you to believe or not. This person has a spotless track record though, so I'm going with them.

Fair enough, I'm not trying to attack you (or the source), just stating my beliefs on this type of thing.

Given the amount of time it took, I don't think this was a slam dunk decision.

Yeah, I know you well enough by now to know what you meant. Just don't have much else to put to it since it was just something I was told, it's not like there's an article public to back it up or anything.

I know Katie at WP just did a long interview with GM this weekend though, so I expect there should be a story about that soon.

Could Ovi be traded now?

Yes, just like I could marry Kate Upton.

@TSNBobMcKenzie I'll be curious to see if WSH owner Ted Leonsis reaches out to Wayne Gretzky to discuss a possible executive position with the Capitals.

Obvious lazy comparison to Jordan.

Gretzky is the greatest hockey player ever. That said, from everything he's done as a member of a front office, I don't think he's meant to be in a front office. Or a coach, for that matter.

One good thing to take away from this: I'm assuming this means Ted wants to separate the GM and VP roles. That's a good idea.
