Baltimore Sun / Recruiting Report:http://www.baltimore...0,2559844.story

Layman might be the primary benefactor of Stoglin's departure. He was going to play regular minutes anyway, now he is likely to start.

Baltimore Sports and Life: “With the current commitments of PG Seth Allen, along with C Shaq Cleare, and SF Jake Layman; Maryland currently has the 23th ranked 2012 Class in the updated Rivals.com rankings (http://basketballrec...asp?CID=1274853) posted on October 5th. This compares to the 7th, and 11th rated classes according to Scout.com, and ESPN. The primary difference appears to be the evaluation of Layman. What are your thoughts on the SF?”

Eric Bossi, Rivals.com: “Layman is a guy who has caused quite a bit of difference in opinion, not just among different ranking services but inside of the ranking services. Layman is a very fluid guy who can shoot and has all of the athletic tools that you would like to see. Right now, I don’t know that he’s a pure wing and would classify him as more of a face-up four man or combo forward. Either way, I like him a lot. Once he adds weight and looks to impact the game a bit more consistently — at least in the summer with BABC he was somewhat inconsistent — he could turn into a very good player for the Terps.”

Baltimore Sports and Life: “Currently, the last member of the class is Jake Layman. Layman is currently ranked by CBS Sports / MaxPreps as the Nation’s 55th best prospect. I’ve often seen the 6’8 Layman described as a wing. However, Bossi told us, “Right now, I don’t know that he’s a pure wing and would classify him as more of a face-up four man or combo forward.” Do you concur with Bossi? What are your thoughts on Layman overall?”

Kellon Hassenstab, Hoopniks: “I think it is accurate to say that Layman’s skill-set is best suited to play the four position, but with the interior players that coach Mark Turgeon has accumulated, it appears that Layman will be given every opportunity to earn minutes as a wing forward. I don’t think there’s any reason that Layman can’t be a hybrid wing forward that exploits match-ups to Maryland’s advantage.”

What MD gets out of Layman next year, will be huge.

I posted a while ago that I believe Layman will have a good season because he strikes me as a Landon Milbourne type of player. He is taller than Milbourne and more polished at an earlier age. I loved Milbourne as a player because he shot well and was gritty and what i watched from Layman was a face-up 4 like Evan Smo will be (sorry, didn't feel like typing his name). If he develops over his time, he can potentially be a 3. Needs some time though. I see him getting about 8 a game because of his shooting ability.

Quite an accomplishment. I honestly got visions of a very good 4 year player dancing in my head. Think Kyle Singler.
