Schoop season: .248 baa, 13 hr's, 48 rbi's, .706 OPS, 33 bb's, 83 k's, 18 doubles, 1 triple.

With the O's promoting Machado, do you think the O's may give Schoop a chance to become the 2nd baseman next Spring?

Schoop is being pulled on a string right now in AA. Pitchers are feeding him a steady diet of changeups and breaking balls. From the little I've seen of him throughout the year at Bowie, Schoop has gotten a lot better at laying off breaking balls out of the zone. The next step is for Schoop to be able to keep his weight back and spray that off-speed junk into the right center field gap. Schoop has plenty of bat speed to spare and will always be able to tear the cover off a fastball, but once he can consistently identify the other stuff he sees and drive that the other way, his game will take another big step forward. But for now, Schoop holding his own as a 20 year old in one of the toughest leagues in the minors has been great.

Just let me add my 2 cents in, I don't think B-Rob will get the 2nd Base spot next year even if healthy if he can't be productive enough. He might get the benefit of the doubt because of the money he's owed and relaitonship with Angelos, but I don't think that will be enough to keep him in the everyday lineup unless he's getting the job done. Of course, getting and staying healthy might make this a moot point.

I haven't listened yet, but figured I would pass it along.
I'm sure it is the same old stuff everyone has said so far though.

I've been wondering how much playing time he's going to get with Bogaerts, Profar, and Simmons in the same infield. It'll be interesting to see who starts where and how much.

Schoop came in at #3 on MLB's Prospect Watch list for second basemen.

http://mlb.mlb.com/n... ... b&c_id=mlb

Jonathan Schoop, Orioles: Signed out of Curacao in 2008, Schoop played in the Futures Game in 2011 and the Arizona Fall League Rising Stars Game in 2012, the latter capping a season in which he was named to the Eastern League All-Star team. Schoop has some offensive upside with a quick bat that should allow him to continue to hit for some power and average. He’s played three infield positions as a pro and can profile well at any of them defensively, though life as an offensively productive second baseman in the same infield as Manny Machado should excite Orioles fans.

Well I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for a guitar player.

Keith Law ranked him #50 on his Top 100 Prospects List which was released this morning.

http://insider.espn.... ... -50#Schoop

Has him listed with potential for 25 HR power with a good OBP and above-average defense at 3B or solid-average defense at 2B.

Jonathan Schoop is only 1 for 9 in 3 games for the Netherlands so far in the WBC. Even though he said at FanFest that he would be playing 3B for the Netherlands, Jurickson Profar dropped out - and he's been playing 2B with Andrelton Simmons at SS and Xander Boegarts at 3B. After their win last night, they're on to the 2nd round of the tournament so he gets a chance to play more for his national team.

His one hit in the tournament was a home run though. Last night, he hit a two run shot out to left. Here's a link to the video of his home run.

That was an absolute monster shot too. Not only could you hear the contact made off the bat (solid) but he hit it hard enough and made good enough contact that the ball went quite a ways while the wind was blowing in. I was pretty impressed.

Even though it was a hanging slider he crushed it's still nice to see him be able to recognize breaking pitches and make pitchers pay for their mistakes - which is key at the major league level because you don't get too many of those opportunities. I also like the fact that he is playing 2B.

He's mashing in the WBC. Sign of good things to come? I mean these aren't spring training games. Cuba is ranked # 1 in the world.

Big game for him.

I think it is important to remember that the Cuban pitching staff is not exactly the greatest thing though. They are mostly a bat-first team (which means a ton of credit should go to that Netherlands pitching staff!).
Still, happy to see him have a big game like that.
