Do you know by chance how much the O’s had to spend compared to other teams? Also where a player like Tavera, or a player paid a similar amount slots into the prospect picture? Like is he in the O’s top-30 by default like some draft picks are? Or maybe how would someone like him rank against Jasson Dominguez who seems to have a rocket strapped to his back who was an MLB top 50 prospect at 16 y/o?

Preito is 22 y/o. Any chance he starts much higher than the others, like AA?

From Roch: Cesar Prieto, 22, could start out in mid-to-upper level of farm system, according to Koby Perez, #orioles senior director of international scouting

Prieto is also immediately heading to Sarasota for mini-camp next week. Feel like as long as he's comfortable out there, he moves very quickly.

That seems like a very short period of time to get the visa process ironed out, unless he’s already able to be in the US.

He's been in the US since early summer after he defected, I believe.

Is minicamp available to everyone not on the 40-man roster?  Or is it anyone who hasn't made an MLB appearance?

Guess my real question is when do guys join the union and would not be able to participate in offseason camps currently?

The O’s aren’t spending “confederate money” as Syd Thrift would say. Elias and Perez have build their relationships enough now to be up there with the other teams.

Tavera is considered a top 15-20 player in this international class so will almost definitely be included in any updated top 20-30’s for the system.

Perez comped Prieto to Nick Madrigal with his bat to ball skills.

I think this is an area where the Orioles under Elias have made excellent progress.  I look forward to the new facility, helping them keep the momentum going and eventually signing a top 2 or 3 player.  Until then, I like the factor that we are spending every nickel they can and are signing good prospects.

They just added these three to the bottom of the list.  I think, technically, these guys signed today instead of Saturday.

Ronal Herrera, RHP, Dominican Republic
Juan Martinez, OF, Dominican Republic
Miguel Mesa, RHP, Dominican Republic

I believe Martinez is a 125K signing.

I listened to the podcast.  Excellent!!!!

I started listening to a previous one as well.  Very good stuff.   I had to look up Alejandro Mendez this morning.   Perez mentioned that he throws 99 mph!    He turns 21 this month and probably returns to the FCL this year but always good to know.   Great stuff on this class.   Would love to know when they start talking to these kids as 13-14 year olds what transpires.   It sounds like agreements are in place for as many as 2-3 years but are they actually committing dollar amounts 2-3 years before the actually signing.  Sounds like a risky business.   I would like to have asked Perez if they Orioles already have tentative agreements for any big bonus guys 500K  and 6 figure types for the next signing period and beyond.

Thanks! Yeah I wish we had more time to dive deeper but felt like we got a lot of good information in the time we had with him.

Didn’t realize they only have $100 left! This is great if true!
