BSL: What to expect from Jimenez?
http://baltimorespor...-agent-orioles/

I pulled from my post on BtBS, as well as some new stuff to highlight what O's fans can expect in Ubaldo.

Great article Jeff.

Ubaldo seems like a pretty cerebral pitcher based on what you pulled from your BtBS article.

The uptick in his splitter usage and the ability to get misses with it is a positive sign going forward IMO.

Reminds me a bit of Feldman, with a higher upside, based on what you described. Not looking forward to being put to sleep when he's on the mound though.

Very informative piece. I'm liking the deal more and more.

We survived 33 Traschel starts, we'll survive this. Also, more downtime=more drinking and game threading.

Great job Jeff. This was such an informative piece and one that mainstream media could never hope to do. Well done.

thanks Jeff.

I've seen a number of quotes relating to Jimenez beyond just his time on the mound.

We've heard a fair amount of 'hard-worker', 'good citizen' and overall positive on his presence.

I'm even more encouraged by the signing when looking through a lens like this wrt his repertoire.

What to expect? Am I allowed to expect a continuation of his post all-star numbers?

1.8 ERA

100 K

27 BB

84 IP

Sound reasonable?

I'd be very disappointed if he only pitches 84 innings this year.

I think most would consider that to be an unreasonable expectation on your part.

Can you imagine if we didn't sign Jimenez and we were looking at a less than 100% Chen to start the season and had to consider Britton and Matusz as real alternatives? And whatever happened to Aceves getting his shot? I'd say he's relegated to the BP now.

Yeah that would be a .500 team or worse...It was a HUGE signing and while we don't need Santana as bad and he is not quite as good it is still a pretty big need imo...

I mean our bullpen could very well be below average this year and while our infield D is great our outfield D is well below average.

Also most people don't realize our offense was only about average last year maybe a tick above and that's with Davis having a career year which he has almost no shot at repeating.

Eh, if we were just going off the start of the season I might change this statement. Would you rather see Zach or Ubaldo make the next start? Maybe Ubaldo takes the one of the others spot?

Britton looks much better than I envisioned.

Not ready to crown Britton the king of bullpens but he has looked good. His problem has always been mechanics and throwing his sinker consistently. If he's still lighting it up come May or June you have to consider him for rotation especially since there's bound to be someone in need of replacing by then.

Jiminez, we always knew the risks going in. The positive is that he has great stuff, he just needs to control it. Hopefully when the weather heats up, he will too.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

MASN: Showalter on Jimenez, "He's better than that."

http://www.masnsport...-than-that.html

I think everyone knows he is better than he has shown in these initial 3 starts. I think most also expect he's not going to consistently be the guy he was down the stretch last year.

The expectation should be a consistent mid-range starter, with the upside to look like a staff leader when he is going well.

He does need to produce though. The variances in his performance will greatly impact this team.

Would like to see him have a strong outing the next time out. Get that first win. Maybe that will help get more comfortable in his new surroundings.

I take a look at why he is struggling through his first three starts.
