A 10% miss rate on inside pitches? Ridiculous.

I was talking with a friend at a game last week and I said, and after thinking on it a bit I still believe, that Machado plays a better defensive 3B than I've seen any Oriole play any position.

The only one who comes close is Alomar. I know some feel he was overrated defensively, but I really enjoyed watching him play.I was talking with a friend at a game last week and I said, and after thinking on it a bit I still believe, that Machado plays a better defensive 3B than I've seen any Oriole play any position.

Yeah, that's the only guy I could think of that seemed like competition for the way Manny has played so far.

Anyone think he's injured? I think he might be nicked up a little, but nothing too serious. I read that Manny has played every inning of every game at 3B nonetheless, since he got called up.

I mentioned this in the game thread last night.
It probably wouldn't be a bad idea, if the elbow is bothering him, to rest him today....that will give him a few days off.

Frome Roch's article this morning....
Machado leads the majors with 33 doubles. He has 10 more than the next player and 11 more than the next player in the AL (Davis). According to STATS, Machado is on pace to become one of the youngest players to lead the majors in doubles (age as of last regular season game of that season), joining Cesar Cedeno (1971, 40 doubles at 20 years and 217 days), Vada Pinson (1959, 47, 21.49), Alex Rodriguez (1996, 54, 21.64), Fred Dunlap (1880, 27, 21.133) and Cedeno (1972, 39, 21.222). Machado is currently 20 years and 348 days old.
Machado leads the majors with 101 hits, 30 multi-hit games and 33 doubles. In his last 52 games, he has 25 multi-hit games and is batting .347 with 27 doubles, two triples, three homers, 26 RBIs and 35 runs scored.

I'm very happy with Machado, but one of the things that bugs me is he seems to be getting picked off first more than normal. I looked it up, he's been caught stealing four times, I think three of those were off first. I think that's the kind of thing he could cutdown on rather easily(and I think he will)

He's just on second so often he isn't used to standing on first.

Good read but Baumann's insistence on not talking about this year's stats is kind of obnoxious. Especially when one of the qualms he brings up is OBP, and Manny is OBPing almost .350 this season.

Hmmm, I didn't read it like that. He referenced Machado's WAR across FanGraphs, Baseball Prospectus, and Baseball Reference. I don't think he was using Manny's on-base % last year as a knock, he was using Manny's numbers last year to ask the question 'Should we have seen this (Manny's 2013 production) coming - based on his production last year?'
He makes the point that on further look, Manny was providing league average production in his Age 19 season, and how remarkable that actually was.
Past that, I think you (Jeff) get as much credit as anyone on this board for projecting out Machado's possible ceiling for this year. When I did my projection for Machado, I had his 2013 ceiling at: 285 /.335 /.475.
Right now, he is at .319/.349/.480. I believe you had him closer to that.

More love from Tom Verducci and an unnamed manager (would love to know who said that).

It seems like he's ahead in the count a lot. His walk rate isn't great but I'd love to see a number of times he's ahead vs behind or something like that.
