To be expected. I am sure he didn't see many plus changeups in AA.

He appears to be handling the learning curve just fine.

Lots of impressive things about him. He is clearly not intimidated by the moment. His reactions, and instincts at 3rd, make it hard to believe he has never played there. His arm has to be one of the strongest in the game at 3rd.

You can just see how he is going to post major numbers in the near future. He is going to crush pitchers who go outside to the RCF gap. When they come in, he is going to blast balls into the left field seats.

He's done a good job of making adjustments so far in the bigs. He figures to get a steady diet of off-speed stuff on the upcoming trip. Will be another opportunity to see what adjustments he makes.

As I said elsewhere, Brooks would've caught it, but no way Brooks could've thrown that guy out...

Machado hit the go-ahead home run tonight to put the O's up 3-2. Later on in the game, he crushed another home run to left field. Prior to this game, he had only one hit this series.

He makes everything look so easy. Reminds me of how Andruw Jones looked in CF for the Braves in the 90's.

What do you think the ceiling and floors are for Machado's first full year in the Majors?

.250/.315/.430 would be my guess as to what he realistically hits. (just spitballing off the top of my head)
Still very young with plenty of growth and wisdom to gain.

Depending on how quickly he adjusts to MLB pitching, I could see him hitting 20+ HRs and being a formidable bat in the lineup next season. At the very least, I think he provides the Orioles with a decent stick near the bottom of the lineup.

I'm not worried about the defense at all. He should be fine there once he works out a few more things.
Important for everyone to remember his age. I wouldn't expect him to be super-star next season.

I think that's closer to his floor. I see it as:

Floor: .240/.300/.410
Ceiling: .310/.380/.540
Likely: .265/.330/.440

I'm guessing you see the % chance of him reaching that ceiling as very low, but I think that is optimistic - even for his ceiling.

I'm pretty close to you, on what you see as 'likely.'

Yea I agree that the Likely scenario is certainly reachable. Anything over that range and I would have to call you a homer :D .
I fully expect him to become a very talented player, but I just want people to realize he still has a ton of growth left (not saying you guys do not realize this)

ESPN The Magazine Manny Machado's big night

http://espn.go.com/m...2-espn-magazine

WHEN LEGENDARY PLAYERS trot off the diamond for the last time, the stadium plays its farewell music, and fans give their final ovations. The world knows it is saying goodbye.

Hellos aren't usually as obvious. But on Sept. 12, Manny Machado made a play at Camden Yards that emphatically announced an arrival like no other.

Of course. Even though he played in Baltimore at 20 last season, technically this is his age-20 season coming up.

I got his jersey for Christmas :D
