Not many holes to plug in guys to improve, and the spots they did have (corner OF, back up C) have been filled. The offense sucked for 4/6 months and we've done nothing to upgrade it so far.
Have to hope for continued development or bounce back for much of the offense. Offense will be fine if Gunnar, Adley, Westburg, Holliday, Cowser, Kjerstad, Mayo, Mountcastle do what they're supposed to do.

I remain intrigued by the idea of signing a bat which clears the path for a Kjerstad, Mayo, Holliday or even Westburg trade for pitching. But think the deeper we go the less likely that becomes, mostly because I don't think there is a pitcher available who justifies dealing that sort of player. Maybe if the Pirates actually do something with Jones.
But otherwise, I agree that we're more or less set offensively. Thinking going from Santander to O'Neill is fine, no complaints there with what extra bats we have coming up to pair with O'Neill and account for his weaknesses.

Paul Goldschmidtt to the Yankees. One year for $12.5 million.
Not sure if this signing makes them any better, and it sure as hell doesn't make them any younger.

He's definitely a better offensive player than Rizzo.

He makes them better. Even in his down year last season he was better than Rizzo.

Agree, going from what they got last year (76 wRC+) to league average like Goldy was last year will be an improvement, with room for upside if he bounces back.He makes them better. Even in his down year last season he was better than Rizzo.
But the Yankees are still leaving a lot of meat on the bone by only going to a league average ish bat at 1B and not a bigger fish. Unless of course he shows that 2024 was a fluke.

Had read it was Santander or Goldschmidtt for New York.
If that's true, wonder where Santander ends up? I'd enjoy not seeing Tony in a Yankees uniform.

I think the Goldschmidtt signing indicates that the Yankees may be reaching the outer reaches of their budget.

Let his market shrink enough to come back here, can play more 1B.
I do think this is possible his market shrinks enough. Give him a 3/60-70 deal with an opt out after next year

The problem with resigning Santander is what to do with everybody else. There aren't near enough at bats to have Kjerstad, Mayo, Santander, Mountcastle, and O'Neil not to mention O'Hearn all on this roster.
Especially when the plan is to DH Ruts more often.

Would require a trade somewhere to have room for Tony back at this point. Even if you option both Kjerstad and Mayo I don't think it's a good use of roster space to carry Cowser, Mullins, Santander, O'Neill, O'Hearn, Mountcastle, Mateo and Urias. Cowser does allow you to not need a glove-first OF on the bench. The problem with resigning Santander is what to do with everybody else. I expect to trade away from our positional depth even without resigning Tony, but would be mandatory if you do. I'm down for that plan and would look to move Mountcastle, Urias and O'Hearn.

The way the Os are doing things I dont think they are looking to add to the position players but I wish they would

Bringing Tony back would make the lineup much more legit. Could look to move both Mounty and Kjersted.

Tony will have a sub .300 OBP next year and it will only get worse. Hard pass.
Punt Ryan O'Hearn into the sun and platoon Mounty and Mayo at 1B until Mayo is the proven victor.
