Agreed regarding Verde.

Timber Pizza Company in DC is supposed to be great. I'm going to try to make it down there at some point.

Not in the Baltimore-DC Metro area, but Kelly and I recently went to Philly and had Pizzeria Beddia, which was fantastic!

Forgot to mention Fireworks Pizza in Leesburg, VA in the honorable mention. Kind of on par with Coal Fire, but better.

So I bought the Pizza Bible by Tony Gemignani and used his Neapolitan pizza dough recipe and in short, it was....a disaster.

For one, it's a 3-4 day process and involves making a starter. The recipe called for not enough water. Then it doesn't call for  much time in the mixer resulting in a dough that tore when I tried to stretch it out. Ugh. So I scrapped 3 dough balls and made my instant dough that uses sugar to rise quicker, and had delicious pizza within an hour of making the dough.

I will try the process again but I'm going to use the techniques (more water, longer mixing time, separate bowls for rising, etc) I've used before that yields better dough.

Had Pizza Johns in Essex for the first time yesterday. How have I lived here this long without having this in my life?

Went meat lovers. Toppings were fresh, thick, and plentiful.

Lot of people love 'em...  not a fan myself.  Too greasy.

My favorite pizza spot is Coal Fire in Hunt Valley.

And while I’m at it, Little Sicily’s in the outskirts of Columbus, OH, is the best pizza I’ve ever had. They do a thinner crust and so many toppings you can’t even tell there it’s a pizza under there. I’m pretty sure when visiting wife’s family in STL, we choose to drive one time just to stop halfway, near Columbus to get this pizza, there and coming back.

I’ve heard a couple people mention them. Have to check it out.

Didn’t seem as greasy as any other pizza yesterday.

Hmm interesting... maybe i'll check out again.

At one job I had, they regularly brought in Pizza John's...   would do the napkin thing, and it would just be immediately soaked.
Was years ago at this point, maybe they've changed.

It's not Baltimore, but for any NoVA/DC folks, check out the Italian Store in Arlington. They've got 2 locations (Westover and Lyon Village) and it's the best pizza I've ever had. They've also got some incredible Italian sandwiches and a full market with Italian food and wine.

Heard plenty of good things about Pizza Johns and went there over the summer for the first time. It's the heaviest pizza I've ever had. Wasn't overly crazy about the pizza as a whole, but the ingredients were very fresh. My buddy delivers their food supplies and says they do order high quality fresh ingredients.

My grandparents lived off of Back River Neck Rd and when I would stay or visit them it was the place to get pizza. And of course than, they were just a little pizza shop, not what they are today. Check it out...

I probably mentioned this before, but Paulie Gee's in Hampden is excellent. That and Verde are probably my top two pizza places in the city.

Keep forgetting there's a Paulie Gee's in Bmore. I've been to the Brooklyn location. Great pizza.

No issues with greasy pizza myself.

I'm also a believer in greasy food being a good cure for a hangover.  The grease absorbs the leftover booze.

It’s awesome.

The pocket pepperonis are so damn good.

Apparently their spaghetti is awesome because of the home made sauce.

Coal Fire is good. Any pizza cooked like that is excellent. There is a place that does Coal Fire style pizza in Fallston that we just went to that had really good pizza.

Still prefer Pizza Johns to it though.

Everything I've ever had there--pizza, pasta, subs, fries, mozzarella sticks, the bread--is great.

The Bruce Banner is my favorite pie, period. Pricey for the amount, but worth it.

Wednesdays from 5-9pm you can get 3 pizzas for $30, and half off bottles of wine.
