Best day because of 2 football games?  No way.  More to the sports world than the NFL.  Has to be some other things going on.

I think McNulty has the general idea, combining some EPL and some Aussie Open in there as well.  But you can't really always count on those things.

But having said that, not really sure I have an answer.  I'd probably go either Opening Day or first weekend of NCAA tournament, but that's just because I'm more a fan of those sports, and also it's based on more than just 2 games.

What's wrong with your reasoning being that you are a fan of the sport(s)? That's why I'm choosing what I choose. If I'm a horse racing fan, I'm probably saying the Kentucky Derby. If I'm an auto car racing fan, I'm saying either the Daytona 500 or Indy 500. There's no "right answer" here.

I also think that the amount of games can matter as much or as little as you want. The two games today last pretty much the whole day, when you include pregame/postgame stuff. Now you bypass all that, but still it goes from about 3 to 10.

I don't gamble... and half the time I don't even participate in a real money pool for the bracket, I just do one online for fun with friends... but the whole bracket aspect of it just totally does it for me. And while you're asking a very specific question w/r/t one day... Days 1-4 of the Tournament are interchangeable to me. Any of those 4 days are just amazing, IMHO.

That said, hard to argue... today was awesome. Especially the night cap.

I think Day 1 is always different than the rest of the Tourney. My picks are still intact (sorry for the selfish reason), I love planning my day around seeing the endings of the games to catch the upsets. The second day is still good, but unless I have a rooting interest, it's not the same. I actually prefer when my teams are playing on Day 2 so I can "enjoy" the first day.

Guys...YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE DAY!!!!

Btw Guy Fawkes Day wins. Although sometimes the party carries to the next day, but it's on the opposite side of the International Date Line. Greenwich Mean Time. Sports. So important a topic. One day only....

I don't know that I would consistently give the same answer to this question. Probably changes during the year, and what I'm looking forward to next. Love the 1st day of the NCAAT... Opening Day...first Saturday of College Football.. first Sunday of the NFL...

I guess the day I consistently enjoy best is the opening of the NCAAT. That day is always fun.

One that hasn't been mentioned yet - at that I will miss - is Friday of the ACC tournament.  I grew up on ACC basketball and remember leaving school early to watch it on several occasions when MD was playing.  As cool as the NCAA tourney is, many of those 1st round games are blowouts, and often times you barely know the teams at all.  But the ACC tournament games are usually relatively close, and are played by teams that I'd watched compete all year and knew inside and out.  And it is perfectly spaced out - 2 games in the afternoon, nice little break for dinner, and 2 more at night.

Particularly in the pre-expansion days, the ACC tourney was gold.

I remember when SG thought he was so damned clever calling it the "dook invitational" even though an invitational tournament requires an invite whereas all the ACC teams qualify for the ACC tourney.

Here's what I'm going with:

1. Opening Day (F*%k you Orioles)

2. Thursday of March Madness

3. AFC/NFC title games

4. Masters Sunday

5. Ravens opening day.

The Thursday of March Madness for me, and it's not close (as many have said already).

One that hasn't been mentioned, I don't think, is Thanksgiving, and I'm surprised. It's not exactly that the games are completely compelling, more than you're probably catching 9 straight hours of football with family, while eating tons of food and drinking...in your own home.

Maybe it was because of the Ravens game, but this Thanksgiving ended up being fantastic.

Another one to mention, though this doesn't happen often: About a year ago, the NFL played a full slate of games on Christmas Eve, on Saturday. There was something so strange, yet pleasant about it. Having 14 games played, and a day off the next day afterward. Rare, indeed.

But in annual events:

1) Thursday of the NCAA Tourney

2) Friday of the NCAA Tourney

3) Friday of the ACC Tourney

4) The ACTUAL Opening Day (where almost everyone plays)

5) Thanksgiving

Honorable mention: First Sunday of the NFL season, Christmas (NBA!)

The ACC Tourney in it's current form, doesn't really do much for me. I used to have more interest when MD was competitive as well. That's probably the most variable on the list on a year-to-year basis. I definitely won't care as much about it when MD is no longer in it (next year). Other than that, I like the items on your list especially numero uno.

The NFL always plays a full slate of games on Saturday when Christmas falls on a Sunday. When you have that and the NBA games on Christmas back-to-back, only the first two days of the NCAA Tourney can really compare IMO.
