Linklater's next movie, Boyhood, is getting raves at Sundance. Shot over 12 years with the same actors following a boy from 6-18. Sounds like the dedication paid off. I'm with you on Before Midnight it was just so well done and rang so true.
Is that the one with Ethan Hawke?  I remember seeing that on IMDB like 5 or 6 years ago on Hawk's page as "The Untitled 12 Year Project"
That's the one! And Patricia Arquette.

A place Beyond the pines was very interesting...a little drawn out but not bad at all.

I liked how it all connected. A small epic story.

Yea..I agree. Just maybe could have been a little shorter and gotten the same point across.

Elysium...no real emotional investment, moved too quick to build any tension, and too overly political. Could have been a lot more fleshed out and engaging. As it is, it's a mediocre sci-fi film that looks great but doesn't leave a mark.

Super Bowl is on Sunday,  which usually means a bunch of new movie trailers coming out.

Coming March 2014. This 40 minute 3D / 2D / Imax film narrated by Tom Brokaw. The question is why? Other than it will be heavily CGI and what NEW info will be obtained.

LOS ANGELES and PARIS and LONDON, Jan. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — 3D Entertainment Distribution announced today that legendary journalist and author Tom Brokaw will narrate “D-Day: Normandy 1944,” written and directed by Pascal Vuong and produced by N3D LAND Films. The 40-minute film brings a new perspective to a monumental event in history that changed the world. It is slated for a staggered release worldwide in 3D and 2D, 15-perf./70-mm film and digital formats beginning in March 2014.

“What I was drawn to in this exceptional giant screen film is that it tells the story of D-Day in a manner that gives such clarity to one of the most important events in the history of mankind,” said Brokaw. “By using digital technology, as well as stunning live-action images, audiences have an idea of the geography involved, the personalities involved, and it will allow a new generation a chance to understand it in a way they would not with traditional, grainy black & white footage. Upon seeing the initial few minutes of the film at the IMAX® theater, I found it irresistible.”

I could see the D-Day movie giving you a sense of being there yourself, but I don't think anything can improve on the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan as far as portraying the battle goes.

Two highly recommended films: Short Term 12 (#6 on my top 10 now) and The Act of Killing (documentary on Netflix).

Short Term 12 is in my queue, I may watch it this weekend if I find the time. I've heard very good things.

It packs an emotional punch but has good comedic beats too. Probably best indie of the year. Let me know what you think if you watch it.

Yeah, best Indie I've watched in a while. It was fairly predictable... but so well executed (acting/directing/writing), that it really didn't matter. This one struck all the right chords. Such a good movie.

Nice. The only problem I had was an unbelievable scene at the end and Nate's character was a little thin but those are nitpicks that didn't bother me too much.

Spectacular Now. Great movie probably one of my top 3 of the year. Miles Teller is one to look out for.
