Star Trek Into Darkness.

Meh. Loved the first one. This one just seemed too fast and furious. And "Save the Cat" is starting to ruin blockbuster movies for me. They're all the same.

Gerard Butler is in final negotiations to star in Alcon’s remake of early 1990s classic surf film, Point Break.

Kurt Wimmer wrote the screenplay for the new film, which is set in in the international world of extreme sports as opposed to the Southern California surf scene of the original. The plot of an FBI agent infiltrating a crime ring remains the same as are the names of the principal characters.

It's obviously that Hollywood is regurgitating old ideas for new audiences. Not many of these things have gone over well, though, aside from the comic book adaptations, so I don't know why they're intent on churning these things out.

 

I mean the people old enough to remember the originals are probably against the remakes (anyone really excited they're remaking Total Recall? RoboCop?), and the intended audience doesnt remember the original and would treat the remake the same as a new original movie with the similar story. So whats the point?

 

I mean, NBC remade Ironsides for crying out loud. Who in the hell wanted that to happen?

ABC remade Charlie's Angels, and CBS remade Hawaii 5-0.

At least those shows have some kind of built in appeal. CA had movies, and Hawaii FiveO could have easily been called CSI: Hawaii. It's when they start making the more obscure stuff that really makes me scratch my head.

Fast and Furious 6 and Despicable Me 2, both sequels to movies I didn't like at all. Both pleasantly surprising but still not that great. How To Survive A Plague - incredible documentary. Available on Netflix, highly recommended.

Just saw 12 Years a Slave... 11/10. Brutal though... freakin' torture porn is what it was. Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Michael Williams, and many others. Just phenomenal casting, acting and directing. McQueen hit it out of the park, and awards will be won.

 After months of speculation, it appears that fans of Rounders will finally learn what happened to Mike McDermott when he took three stacks of high society to Vegas.

Just watched "Her" - really loved it a lot. Forgot how much I enjoy Joaquin Phoenix as an actor - he was phenomenal in this. The award's committees are going to have their work cut out for them.

I like Phoenix too. But this movie looks dumb as hell. I didn't think "The Master" was that great either, even though he was great in it.

A lot of my friends have made that comment about this movie... but I disagree. It's powerful. It really grabs you at a very foundational, fundamental level. Or at least it did for me. It had my attention the whole damn time.

The Master lead me to believe something more substantial would happen. I was disappointed but the performances were solid. After There Will Be Blood, I expected more.

I disagree that it's torture porn. People are using that term to denounce the film. But I agree it's a powerful, infuriating, brutal film and is the best movie of the year from what I've seen. Looking forward to Her, seeing it Thursday, The Master was my favorite film of 2012.
