Looks like Melewski is more interested in guys who are closer to the majors than guys with more upside. EdRod > Harvey because he's so much closer to the majors. Same with Urrutia and Wright because neither have great ceilings and Urrutia is simply closer.

It probably doesn't matter whether a guy is ranked #6 or #7 on a top ten list.

Yea, i think that is definitely how he looked at it.

Remember, Nick told us that BP sees Harvey as a top 30 talent.  No way ERod is viewed that high.

It's possible that Keith Law puts ERod in the top 30 as he was ranked #44 in July. It's highly unlikely but I wouldn't be shocked if he was in the top 40. He sometimes just falls in love with guys. He did with Schoop last year and did with ERod this year. I'd be shocked if he didn't put ERod before Harvey by at least thirty spots (if Harvey breaks the top 100).

BP ranks prospects aggressively based on potential upside. It's an interesting philosophy.

Keith generally defers to ceiling rather than floor.

I wouldn't be surprised if Keith has 3 O's in the top 30, another in the top 50, and a 4th in the top 100.

I guess with Harvey it comes down to whether you weigh ceiling or floor more. For me, Harvey has top 20 SP potential which makes him a top 50 guy. There aren't 20 pitchers in the minors who have that kind of potential.

Granted, his floor is much lower than 90% of prospects, but his ceiling is higher than almost everyone's too.

If Harvey proves himself then you can always give him a high ranking next year. If he doesn't then he didn't deserve a high ranking in the first place. He's a guy that I'd probably feel more comfortable waiting on.

I don't suppose there's a way to find a list of historical BP top hundred prospects? Say starting from 1998?

The internet may be able to help you. I certainly cannot.

Keith Law ranked the Orioles farm system tenth in MLB. Rays are twenty-third.

Is Law one of the guys who is super high on Harvey?  I can definitely see ranking the O's that high if you think we've got a top-10 (Bundy), top-20 (Gausman), and top-30 (Harvey) starting pitching prospect.  Even without much depth behind the next couple guys like Rodriguez and Schoop, if you are that high on the pitchers, the organization will be ranked pretty highly even if the depth is lacking.
